A short but potent sunrise enhancement boost from 1330-1355 raised up both low
and high band Asian signals to respectable levels on the hand-held 3" FSL
Tecsun PL-380 this morning, with the Japanese big guns, 603-HLSA and 1575-VOA
the main beneficiaries. During the propagation peak around 1350 there were
lesser signals from 657-Pyongyang, 1503-JOUK and 1593-CNR1, but these were
weak, and fizzled quickly.

At my 1325 start time Asian signals sounded pretty modest, with nothing unusual
except for a serious carrier on 1323 (which never came to audio). 1575-VOA was
the first to benefit from increasing sunlight at 1330, coming up to good peaks
in and out until 1355. The low band also kicked into high gear around 1335,
with the NHK big guns on 594, 693, 747 and 828 reaching good levels in and out,
and 603-HLSA reaching fair to good peaks with its deep voiced male-hosted pop
music. Late on at 1352 the female Korean tirades on 657-Pyongyang also rose
above the noise level briefly, along with 1503-JOUK's Japanese male speech and
weak Chinese from 1593-CNR1. 603-HLSA and 1575-VOA's unusual signals fizzled
around 1355, but 594-JOAK stuck it out at a fair level until the 1400 TOH.
Overall the session was fairly interesting for March, and hopefully an
indication of better propagation to come.
