All; The driver was the problem. I have just solved the problem by deleting the device from device manager and reinstalling with a different driver that it likes with a little trickery (it's unsigned). Ready for Cliffside action in the AM.
Today's conditions were underwhelming with the often heard big stations only and low band only.
