Satoshi Miyauchi and Hiroo Nakagawa are highly skilled in both Perseus-SDR and
Ultralight radio DXing, and they tried out both styles of DXing at the Rockwork
cliff. Satoshi was concentrating almost exclusively on Ultralight radio DXing
with his new (home-built in Japan) 3" FSL Tecsun PL-380 model inductively
coupled to one of my 15" FSL antennas, while Hiroo appeared to be recording
DU-DX with his own Perseus-SDR receiver hooked up to Tom's broadband loop via a
splitter. Satoshi quickly caught on to the skill of chasing DU's with a spare
ICF-2010 SSB spotting receiver (to check suitable DU targets), tuning his own
15" FSL to peak the ICF-2010's "Christmas tree" LED display on the frequency of
choice, and then inductively coupling his Ultralight to the FSL to make a nice
DU recording. In fact, he became so skillful at the process that he was even
telling me about hot DU-DX signals that I didn't even know existed :-) He must
have recorded at least 7 or 8 strong Kiwi signals, in addition to a booming
738-Tahiti signal on his stand-alone 3" FSL PL-380 (of which he made a long
video, in front of the awesome ocean cliff scenery).

Our two Japanese guests first flew into San Francisco about 4 days ago and had
some sightseeing around the Bay Area before taking a flight to Portland, OR,
and arriving on Saturday morning. They drove to the coast to meet us, and we
had a nice welcoming dinner on Saturday night. They plan to return to Japan
this evening.

Great stuff Gary!  I’ll bet you’re as good a host as you are an Ultralight DX
moderator!

Get some sleep when you get home.  You deserve it!

BTW, what kind of antennas/receivers were the Japanese DXers using and are they
going anywhere else while visiting America?
