I've heard that iquid crystal displays can get dodgy in cold
temperatures; unfortunately they're really common in battery operated
radios. Given that you're DXing out in the open, assume that you
are needing a battery operated radio Paul?
Do you own any digital display radios already? How do they perform
in the cold? If the only thing missing is antenna input, you can
usually couple in an external antenna to the internal loop antenna
through an external loop of wire. Ugly, but functional. At least
you're not worried about strong signal overload there.
