It's nice that Craig had multiple hets from second tier TP's in Colorado this
morning, but not very many of those second tier Asian hets developed into
decent audio here this morning. Conditions declined somewhat from yesterday,
with only the usual Japanese big guns, 972-HLCA and (surprise) 1593-CNR1
sounding very energetic. With the exception of 1593 there wasn't much of a
daybreak boost, either, with the best big gun TP audio showing up in the
predawn darkness.

A predawn band check at 1030 revealed decent audio from 594, 693 and 972, and
moderate carriers on 603, 657 and 738. A digital recorder set up on 657
recorded some weak Korean shouting at 1218, but that was Pyongyang's only audio
appearance. When live DXing resumed at 1300 nothing much seemed to have
changed, with 594, 693 and 972 still having good peaks, and 747, 774 and 828
fair at times. Extended listening on 603 revealed some weak music from a
presumed HLSA at 1335, but only for a few seconds at a time. The high band was
checked at 1350, and surprisingly 1593-CNR1 was going against the sliding
propagation trend with S7 peaks-- much stronger than yesterday. The Chinese big
gun steadily kept up this strength (on peaks) for the 5+1 pips, Beijing time
and CNR ID at the 1400 TOH, followed by Chinese news. 1593's signal was the
strongest from Asia around 1410 as the lackluster low band propagation started
sapping the strength of the NHK big guns, and 972-HLCA. Just before the p
ropagation collapse around 1420 a presumed 738-BEL2 made a ghostly appearance,
but it bailed promptly. Although 1566-HLAZ did manage fair audio around 1405
its signal was nowhere near that of 1593-CNR1-- the surprise star of the
session here.
