Does anyone know if the "cuckoo clock" time pips on 918 kHz are from the
Chinese station in Shandong, or from the 200 kW Cambodian station in Phnom
Penh? In this Cook Island recording at 1658 on April 11th the female Cambodian
announcer starts out dominant, and the Cambodian National Anthem starts off at
55 seconds, mixing with Shandong's Chinese until 1:41 into the recording, when
the "cuckoo clock" time pips start (thanks to Hiroyuki Okamura and Jari Letinen
for identifying the Cambodian anthem). But Cambodia's anthem continues during
and after the time pips, which would seem odd for a station to broadcast if it
is playing a national anthem in a sign-off routine. On the other hand
Shandong's speech stops during the time pips at 1700 UTC, and seems to resume
after them. Does anyone know if Shandong is the source of the strange time
pips? https://dreamcrafts.box.com/s/takoyz5d3l19wockuky8x1e0d8m8fiv0
