Just because it's almost the longest day of the year, DX is far from dead on
the East Coast as evidenced by the forwarded correspondence below.

Subject: [CapeDX] Thursday Night at Menauhant Beach - East Falmouth
DX at this location was good on Wednesday night so decided to come back the
next night. Glad I did.
12ft. stick w/amp to FDM-S2 Sunset- 8:14 PM. EDT / 0014 UTC K= 2 UTC
Date- 6 - 7-8 - 2018

700 Brazil - R. Nossa Voz, Sao Paulo - Man and a woman talking in Portuguese
and mention of Nossa Beach a few times. LSB.
760 Brazil - R. Uirapuru, Fortaleza - Some music then sounded like an old man
giving I.D. LSB.
980 Brazil - Brasilia - Fast talking announcer giving play by play of a soccer
game. In Portuguese and mention of Brazil.
1645 Beacon MLZ Brazil in on most files.
0008 Ant. 140 Deg.
610 Brazil - In good with a game.
810 Brazil - R. Verdes Mares, Fortaleza - Excited announcer w/ a game. Seems
soccer the only sport in Brazil.
940 Brazil - T - In the mix - Sounded like a preacher talking in Portuguese.
1040 Brazil - R. Capital, Sao Paulo - All talk, all alone and good on LSB..
1200 Brazil - Portuguese talk by a woman under WXKS. She was the center of

600 Unknown - Some music and man saying, Rio Grande - 1 whistle at 0020:29.
This under WICC. Could not tell if Portuguese or Spanish. Man said Salvador. No
// found.
Portuguese is more flowing than Spanish but still have a problem if in
weak or other stations mixing.
650 Brazil - T - R. Itatiaia - Am Va le do Aco, Timoteo - Located a little
N.E. of Belo Horizonte. Weakly under WSRO's Portuguese. Best at mid-file with
soccer and seemed // with 610 as when the man would raise his voice like a
chance at a goal it would be the same as 610.
680 SS under and even with Boston at times.
810 WKVM P.R. Spanish on top at this time.
860 Brazil - R. CBN, Rio de Janeiro - Soccer game in progress with quick adds
w/ fan fare. On top most of file.
1100 Brazil - T - With soccer game in the mix. A sound like a whop at one

620 Brazil - Portuguese - mostly talk then some music - Mountain Dew add. WZON

the first being covered up could be Argentina.
650 Brazil - Game continues under and at times even to WSRO.
670 VEN. - R. Rumbos. I.D. twice.
680 WAPA - PTR. - Mention Cadena, then a woman maybe with news. At times equal
to Boston.
700 Argentina - Cadena 3 - R. Cordoba - Saying, orcho? Best in LSB. Start of
file I.D. 0027:30 (was doing 5 to 6 minute files) Argentina twice in I.D. The
last time AR-gen-tina. The man and woman in talk mentioned Rosario at various
times. Just before 0030 3 pips with last one longer. Mixing with another
station toward the end of the file.
750 In passing was like a graveyard channel.
780 Ven. - R. Coro I.D.
810 Columbia - Caracol and other SS - While WGY buried.
910 Could be WLAT New Britain, CT. SS Tropical - "LA Mega" Ident. at start
and also at 0030 with 4 descending note, 3 times.
1120 PTR - R. Once, Hatillo - Good with ID. near end of file.
1190 Argentina - R. Nal., San Miguel de Tucuman - Location about 300 miles
NNW. of 700 Codoba. A fast clicking sound, maybe like a cow bell, then ID at
0028:20. Man said Nacional and at 0030:03 3 pips with last pip longer. This
under WLIB.
1220 Brazil - Mountain Dew add at 0032. Global comes in good at times in LSB.
1270 Argentina - LS11 - R. Provincia de Buenos Aires, La Plata - Started
coming in around 0029 or just before under WTSN with Red Sox game. In about I
minute with singing Identification Mention of Valencia.- Strong pips at 0030
with 3 pips, last one longer. Then gone to WTSN rest of file. A surprise catch.
Will make MP3 copies of these stations.
1309.725 Carrier - may be HJAK Columbia.
1640 2 stations. One Spanish with music and the o ther a TIS
0043 Ant. 140 Deg.
770 // 810 // 850 // 990 all // and in Spanish. maybe Colombia.
1120 Columbia - Cadena Radial Vida, Pereira - ID. at 0045 and 0046 as Radio
Cadena. In the mix.
1170 Columbia - Caracol R, Cartagena - T -
0100 140 Deg. first 2 minutes then 180 Deg. from 0058 to 0102
700 A mix of stations with one with 6 pips, last one longer.
Many frequencies on lower side of band clogged w/ Latins bu t upper part
saying to me to go home.
750 ID. at 0100 with 6 pips, last one longer.
760 LSB - 6 pips, last one longer followed by 5 notes and man mentioned
Colombia.
Also on 760 PTR. WORA with a man sluring a sound and saying, Puerto Rico.
810 WKVM PTR. Into singing ID. in strong with Brazil under them with a game.
1190 Pips under NY.
That's it. Not a bad night with a 12ft. stick 4 miles from home.
Now will go to Global tuners to check on these and find pips to match stations.
Maybe Argentina went from 5 or 6 pips to 3, and maybe Columbia has 6. Who knows.

Roy, that seems like a pretty good Latin America session and you didn't have to
drive way out to Chatham or Orleans to pull it off.
A few comments:
<<
1200 Brazil - Portuguese talk by a woman under WXKS. She was the center of
attention with a man talking at times. At ti mes on LSB bursts almost equal to
Boston. - A surprise. Which one, Fortaleza or Sao Paulo?
>>
Fortaleza was the sunset regular in the pre-WXKS days before YVOZ would start
to join the fray.
I remember an early '90s aurora when I was at Windmill Beach, South Yarmouth.
At or just before sunset 1190 was Natal, Brazil; 1197 was monster Lesotho (even
coming in on ICF-2010 portable); and 1200 Fortaleza. Think 1206 had something
African (Mozambique maybe?).
<<
680 SS under and even with Boston at times.
>>
Probably WAPA at that early time. Colombia gets in the stew later.
<<
620 Brazil - Portuguese - mostly talk then some music - Mountain Dew add. WZON
on top most of file. Also in the mix heard 2 pips, last one longer. These pips
the first being covered up could be Argentina.
>>
Most likely Fortaleza based on previous receptions at Tonset Rd. site in
Orleans.
<<
750 In passing was like a graveyard channel.
>>
Had Brazil v. Venezuela shoot-out at Chatham once with CBGY aurora-weakened..
<<
910 Could be WLAT New Britain, CT. SS Tropical - "LA Mega" Ident. at start
and also at 0030 with 4 descending note, 3 times.
>>
Yes.
<<
1190 Argentina - R. Nal., San Miguel de Tucuman - Location about 300 miles
NNW. of 700 Codoba. A fast clicking sound, maybe like a cow bell, then ID at
0028:20. Man said Nacional and at 0030:03 3 pips with last pip longer. This

>>
Had "R. America" Argie once before Colombia and P.R. stations faded up.
<<
1270 Argentina - LS11 - R. Provincia de Buenos Aires, La Plata - Started
coming in around 0029 or just before under WTSN with Red Sox game. In about I
minute with singing Identification Mention of Valencia.- Strong pips at 0030

>>
Maybe a US-first, at least in the modern (last 25 years) era. Bill W., Bruce
C., and Kaz can mention if ever logged in Maine. Usually too much CJCB / WTSN
dogfight to log much else on 1270 here 3 miles inland.
<<
1309.725 Carrier - may be HJAK Columbia.
>>
Undoubtedly.
<<
1120 Columbia - Cadena Radial Vida, Pereira - ID. at 0045 and 0046 as Radio
Cadena. In the mix.
>>
Possibly another modern-era US first. P.R. is usual 1120 foreign DX here.
<<
Also on 760 PTR. WORA with a man sluring a sound and saying, Puerto Rico.
>>
Should be // 630 NotiUno network.
Feel free to send along a USB stick with this outing and your last Chatham
session.
Maybe you can cull out some of the more interesting catches and format up a
report for Bruce's column to inject some summer fun in the loggings.
