I’m still a diehard ultralight DX-er. I was encouraged to get into the game by
nearby DX-ers John Bryant and Kirk Allen, later by Robert Ross and Gary DeBock.
Therefore, I still use a small portable receiver (usually a PL-380 or Skywave)
tuning one station at a time. For TP DX I normally begin about 30 minutes
before LSR by checking 774 kHz for a signal from JOUB and go from there. While
I prefer to DX using a barefoot receiver, I have come to rely more on an FSL
aerial. From Oklahoma I've managed to log BCB stations from every continents,
except South America, using ultralights receivers. For example, this morning I
heard JOGB from 10820 km away.
