Jews - Kurds :

A Long-Term Relationship

By Daniel Bart

The Kurds and the Jews have been in love for as long as there have been Jews
and Kurds. The Kurds helped and sheltered the Jews for centuries without
expecting anything in return. The roles became reversed with the
establishment of the State of Israel which became the permanent protector of
Iraqi Kurdistan and Kurds in general. Israel is now in the middle of its
second attempt (1991-) to establish an independent Kurdish state after the
first attempt (1965-75) failed.

There are five main options for the exercise of self-determination in
Kurdistan .

1. Four interconnected autonomies that will be ever-closer tied to each
other.
2. A Kurdish autonomous region in Northern Kurdistan and an independent
state of Kurdistan in all other parts of Kurdistan .
3. A unified Kurdish state in all four parts of Kurdistan .
4. An extended Kurdistan that would include the coastal Latakia province in
what is now Syria .
5. A greater Kurdistan that would also include Turkish- and Arabic-language
Alevis/Alawis, the Druze regions as well as the Kurdish regions of central
Anatolia .

The last option may seem radical but there are many advantages for everyone
involved. Many Druze and Alevis are descendants of Kurds who were forcibly
assimilated into Arab and Turkish culture. Integrating Druze and Alevi
regions that are not linguistically Kurdish will free them from their
current minority position in Muslim society and create a demographic balance
between Muslims and non-Muslims in a greater Kurdistan .

Scientists of religion usually refer to Kurdish religion as "heterodox
religion in the Near East ." This terminology obscures the Kurdish origin of
Alevism, the Druze religion, Yarsanism and Yezidism. Nearly all Yarsanis and
Yezidis and many Alevis have kept their Kurdish language. Integrating the
Druze and the other Alevis will allow them to reclaim their Kurdish roots
and exercise freedom of religion in a state that would be as much non-Muslim
as Muslim.

This would not merely give Kurdistan a coastline, but forever change the
politics of the region. (There is even the possibility that the Kurdish
state could extend up to the Black Sea and Turkey 's northeastern coastal
region could be incorporated with the Republic of Azerbaijan .)

Kurdistan would become established as a regional great power and Israel
would become far stronger. Israel and Kurdistan would also share a border on
the Golan Heights . A greater Kurdistan would be a stabilizing factor in the
region, a strong friend of America and a regional catalyst for
democratization and European integration.

Do any of the five options sound even remotely likely? No, the hard truth is
that the Kurds are doomed to lose even this unique historical opportunity to
establish a greater Kurdistan or even any kind of self-determination beyond
what they have now in Iraqi Kurdistan unless they learn to befriend their
Jewish neighbors in Europe.

Turkey is the main enemy of the Kurdish nation and that evil tyranny
occupies half of Kurdistan and elementary Kurdish geostrategy requires that
we deal with Turkey first. The Kurds have yet to fully appreciate their
Jewish friends in Europe or understand that Kurdish freedom will only come
through Europe if at all. The Kurds of Kurdistan are essentially helpless.
The Kurds of Europe cannot free Kurdistan unless they have certain partners.
They will have to try to convince the Jews of Europe to work with them or
otherwise perpetuate the Kurdish history of lost opportunities.

Israel is a close ally of the Kurdish state, but European Jewry, not Israeli
Jewry is the key to Kurdistan 's freedom. Turkey is an Anti-Semitic state but
unless you tell the Jews they will not know. Nearly all Kurds are fervent
Zionists but unless you tell the Jews they will not know about this. The
Kurds love the Jews and have done so throughout history but unless you tell
the Jews they will not have the opportunity to reciprocate.

The discreet love between Jews and Kurds is an ancient one and something
that is not usually discussed in public. The Kurds of Europe need to tell
the Jews of Europe about this secret love. The Jews in Europe are not yet
aware of this love story that spans through the centuries so you must tell
them. You may be quite surprised to hear this but now is the time and
occasion to tell your Jewish friend and the world.

FOR INFO:

1)     Gulan AVCI (a Kurd), now candidate of Folk Party in Sweden, attended a rally held in Stockholm back in April 2005 which was organized by Zionist Organization.

2)     Daniel BART, a Zionist and one of the organizers of the rally writes about “love” between Jews and Kurds (see his article below, it’s hilarious!).

3)     Rebwar HASSAN, Kurdish politician who lives in Sweden, active member of the Green Party of Sweden, is now a candidate to become the Kurdish member of the Swedish parliament.

4)     Sakine MADON, Kurdish origin member of Sweden’s Liberal People’s party, was expelled from the party for insulting Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the Turkish people.

1) Born to be Free - Rally for Israeli MIAs

April 20, 2005
The Zionist Federation of Sweden helps in the organization of the local rally held in the center of Stockholm , which saw cooperation between Jewish, Iranian and Kurdish students.

It was unfortunately an ice cold windy day which prevented many from attending. Similar demonstrations against Iran took place simultaneously in European capitals and in New York . One of the speakers, Patrik Malm, is the chairman of the Liberal Youth Association, the other Swedish speaker was Birgitta Ohlsson, liberal parliamentarian and member of the foreign policy committee of the Swedish parliament. The Kurds were represented by Gulan Avci and the Iranians by Fred Saberi.

The event was organized by the Bnei Akiva shlichim and Mr. Daniel Bart. Working with organizers at all the rallies was the World Zionist Organization and Jewish Agency for Israel .
