US carried out madrasah bombing, American poodle Musharraf took blame to
protect Master
THE bombing of a Pakistani madrasah last month, in which 82 students
were killed, was carried out by the United States, a Pakistani official
has admitted, writes Christina Lamb.
"We thought it would be less damaging if we said we did it rather than
the US," said a key aide to President Pervez Musharraf. "But there was a
lot of collateral damage and we've requested the Americans not to do it
again."

Like Hitler and Brezhnev, Bush is in denial
More than half a million deaths, an army trapped in the largest military
debacle since Vietnam, a Middle East policy already buried in the sands
of Mesopotamia - and still George W Bush is in denial. How does he do
it? How does he persuade himself - as he apparently did in Amman
yesterday - that the United States will stay in Iraq "until the job is
complete"?

Powderkeg
NATO has been a useful tool for the United States. It’s helped to
conceal America’s imperial ambitions behind the mask of US-European
solidarity. Now Bush is putting the alliance at risk by using it to
enlist European support for a global resource war.

Bob Gates & Locking You Up Forever
As the next Defense Secretary, Robert M. Gates will be in charge of a
new star-chamber legal system that can lock up indefinitely “unlawful
enemy combatants” and “any person” accused of aiding them. Yet, despite
these extraordinary new powers, his confirmation is being treated more
like a coronation than a time for tough questions.

Terrorist case against Denver family ended
A federal judge on Wednesday declared the end of the government's four-
year case against a Denver Pakistani-American family once targeted by
the FBI as terrorists. Family members whose lives were turned upside
down simply wept. "We've lost everything," longtime Colorado
restaurateur Abdul Qayyum said.

Ghosts in the Machine : Encounters With The NSA
Quite some time ago, I am not sure exactly when, the thought police
(National Security Agency) clandestinely moved into my computer. It did
so without my permission and in violation of the law, not to mention the
Constitution. The prying eyes of government are watching my every move,
noting my every keystroke and monitoring my every electronic
transmission and telephone conversation.

U.S. Rates Travelers for Terror Risk
Without their knowledge, millions of Americans and foreigners crossing
U.S. borders in the past four years have been assigned scores generated
by U.S. government computers rating the risk that the travelers are
terrorists or criminals. The travelers are not allowed to see or
directly challenge these risk assessments, which the government intends
to keep on file for 40 years.

1 in every 32 U.S. adults behind bars, on probation or on parole in 2005
Racial disparities among prisoners persist. In the 25-29 age group, 8.1
percent of black men — about one in 13 — are incarcerated, compared with
2.6 percent of Hispanic men and 1.1 percent of white men. And it's not
much different among women. By the end of 2005, black women were more
than twice as likely as Hispanics and over three times as likely as
white women to be in prison.

investigation into the events of September 19, when Iraqi police
arrested two British undercover Special Air Service (SAS) officers in

According to the BBC, the SAS men were disguised as Arabs and were
travelling in an unmarked car containing “weapons, explosives and

Debate on US Troop Withdrawal fails to Acknowledge War Crimes &
Violation of Iraq's Sovereignty
There is a surreal quality to the nationwide political debate about the
Iraq war now taking place in the United States. The primary emphasis of
the debate is not upon the unjust, illegal and immoral nature of the
war, but upon the Bush Administration's failure to secure a decisive
victory. In his only direct reference to Iraq war policy so far, Robert
Gates, President George W. Bush¹s nominee to replace Defense Secretary
Donald Rumsfeld, was critical this week of the Pentagon's failure to
'prepare adequately' for suppressing resistance to the occupation...

While U.S. Talks of “New Direction” in Iraq - Massacre in Ramadi
Some politicians and media now portray Iraq as a civil war in which U.S.
soldiers are "well meaning peacekeepers caught in the middle." But what
happened on November 13 in the city of Ramadi, in the western part of
Iraq, tells a different story. On that night, U.S. tanks opened fire on
homes in the Al-Dhubat area of Ramadi killing at least 35 people. A 60-
year-old man, Haji Jassim, told Inter Press Service (IPS), "We heard the
bombing and we thought it was the usual fighting between resistance
fighters and the Americans, but we soon realized it was bombing by large
cannons. We weren't allowed by the Americans to reach the destroyed
houses to try to rescue those who were buried, so certainly many of them
bled to death… There was a big American force that stopped us and told
us the usual ugly phrases we hear from them every day."...
