Baghdad :

Shi'i sectarian attacks drive 1,000 Sunni residents out of Baghdad neighborhoods as effort to split Iraq along sectarian lines continues in accordance with Zionist and US schemes.

The Shi'i sectarian gunmen and puppet government troops used loudspeakers to declare: "To the children of Mu'awiyah the infidel and 'Umar the homosexual, you have just half an hour to leave your houses or we will burn them over your heads."

In a dispatch posted at 4:50pm Makkah time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that pro-Iranian Shi'i sectarian Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen backed up by puppet Iraqi army troops carried out coordinated attacks on Sunnis resident in the al-Hurriyah district of Baghdad beginning on Saturday night and into Sunday morning. In all more than 200 Sunni families were driven out of their homes in the area.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that the Shi'i sectarian gunmen and puppet government troops used loudspeakers to declare: "To the children of Mu'awiyah the infidel and 'Umar the homosexual, you have just half an hour to leave your houses or we will burn them over your heads."

Witnesses said that Iraqi Resistance fighters in the streets and atop roofs in the area did battle with the Shi'i sectarian attackers, killing 14 of them but the US-backed puppet government troops were fighting on the side of the Jaysh al-Mahdi and that gave them the advantage in the engagement.

Local residents said that half of the weapons being carried by the Shi'i sectarians were Iranian made and new.

Half an hour after the attack and under heavy gunfire, the residents of the area left their houses to sleep in the streets and the Shi'i sectarians set fire to them.

The correspondent walked through the neighborhood and reported that of 12 Sunni mosques that had been in the area, only one remained. The 11 others had either been burned down or turned into Shi'i Husayniyahs.

Local residents during the night sought intervention by the US-installed puppet regime to halt the sectarian attacks of the Jaysh al-Mahdi, but their requests fell on deaf ears and on Sunday morning the Jaysh al-Mahdi gunmen and militiamen led by Jalal as-Saghir, the Iranian cleric and member of the American-installed puppet "Iraqi Parliament" (who also runs the notorious Buratha Mosque, where dozens of Sunni Iraqis have been tortured and murdered), renewed their assault on Sunnis in the area. The pro-Iranian sectarians killed 22 local residents in unequal gun battles and proceeded to burn down the Sunni al-Muhaymin Mosque, killing its guard and muezzin Shaykh Khalid Khalifah. In House No. 20, No. 6 Lane in Mahallat 426, a woman was found dead, apparently sexually assaulted in front of her husband who was found tied up and dead as well.

The correspondent reported that more than 1,000 people, including many women, children, and elderly people from the areas had found temporary refuge in the Ma 'ruf al-Karakhi Mosque the al-Ibthal School and other places in the districts of al-'Adl, al-Jami'ah, and al-'Amiriyah.

The Shi'i sectarian Jaysh al-Mahdi militia is run by Muqtada as-Sadr, a Shi'i cleric loyal to Iran, which is seeking to extend its regional hegemony and step into the shoes of the American occupation in Iraq. The Shi'i sectarians, seeking to implement a partition plan that would divide Iraq into three states in accordance with schemes drawn up by Zionist and US strategists, have been working to "cleanse" mixed neighborhoods in Baghdad of Sunni residents.
