The Bush/Cheney Administration has never concealed its sneering contempt
for international law or world public opinion. Even so, the lynching of
President Saddam Hussein of Iraq established a new nadir for America and
shocked the entire globe.
This sordid act, which grossly violated international law, the Geneva
Conventions, and basic human decency, provoked a well-deserved storm of
criticism around the globe against the Bush/Cheney Administration. It also
rekindled demands for an international abolition of the death penalty.

Execution sparks Arab support for Saddam
CAIRO, Egypt - Another leaked video from Saddam Hussein's execution carried
fresh adulation Monday of the fallen dictator, who in death has become a
martyr and hero of Arab nationalism for some in the Middle East.
Saddam's stature has grown since his execution when he answered insults
and taunts with disdain overshadowing the memories in much of the Arab
world of the massacres and other atrocities committed by his regime.

New video of Saddam's corpse on Internet
The new video, showing Saddam's corpse with a gaping neck wound, was posted
on the Internet early Tuesday. It was apparently shot with a camera phone
minutes after he was hanged Dec. 30.
As the panning shot reaches the head region, the white shroud is pulled
back and reveals Saddam's head and neck.
His head is unnaturally twisted at a 90 degree angle to his right. It shows
a gaping bloody wound, circular in shape, about an inch below his jaw line
on the left side of his neck. His left cheek is marked with red blotches,
and there is blood on the shroud where it covered his head.
The newest video leak was likely to increase the angry reaction over the
way the execution was carried out. There already has been a global outcry
about the undignified manner in which the Shiite-dominated government
hanged Saddam, a Sunni.

When the first prisoners arrived at Guantanamo in January 2002 they were
handcuffed, shackled and wearing hoods. The reason for these exceptional
measures, explained the then chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General
Richard Myers, was that the prisoners were highly dangerous. "These are the
sort of people who would chew through a hydraulics cable to bring a C-17

9/11 : Number of Guantanamo Bay hunger strikers double
The number of Guantanamo Bay detainees participating in a hunger strike has
more than doubled since a month ago to 11, including five who are being
force-fed, the US military said.
Military officials describe the hunger strike as an attempt to build public
sympathy and opposition to the detention centre, which this week marks its
fifth anniversary of existence at the isolated US military base in Cuba.
But human rights groups say the strike reflects prisoners despair.
I dont see it as at all curious that they should be desperate enough to
