Silence of Mainstream media - One million post-invasion Iraqi excess deaths
ignored
MWC NEWS readers may have encountered a recent article of mine in which the
post-invasion excess deaths (avoidable deaths, deaths that did not have to
happen) in Occupied Iraq were estimated at 1 million (ONE MILLION). This
estimate was based on the very latest medical literature and UN Population
Division data sources that were carefully documented in the 2 February 2007
article.
Accordingly I have RE-CALCULATED the post-invasion Iraqi excess deaths as
of March 2007, making 5 ESTIMATES using 4 INDEPENDENT SETS OF DATA as set
out below. The key sources are UNICEF, the UN Population Division and
scientific papers from the top US medical epidemiology group in the Worlds
top Public Health Department (the Bloomberg School of Public Health) at the
top Johns Hopkins University and published peer-reviewed in the top medical
journal The Lancet (for further details and detailed documentation of what
follows see MWC News and HERE ):
(a) From UN Population Division Data using the death rate in Iraqs
peaceful but impoverished neighbours Jordan and Syria as a baseline, the
post-invasion excess deaths in Occupied Iraq totals 0.6 million (by way of
comparison, the corresponding post-invasion under-5 infant mortality figure
is 0.5 million).
(b) Detailed analysis of infant mortality and avoidable mortality (excess
deaths) for every country in the world since 1950 reveals that for
impoverished Third World countries under-5 infant mortality is about 0.7
times the total avoidable mortality. From the latest UNICEF data we see
that 122,000 under-5 year old infants die each year in Occupied Iraq i.e.
122,000 x 4 = 488,000 would have died over the 4 years since the invasion;
dividing by 0.7 yields an estimate of 697,000 post-invasion avoidable
deaths in Occupied Iraq i.e. 0.7 million.
(c) Roberts et al (2004) in The Lancet estimated a post-invasion Iraqi
annual death rate of 12.3 persons per 1,000 of population. Subtracting the
annual death rate in impoverished but peaceful neighbouring Syria and
Jordan (about 4 deaths per 1,000 of population) we get a post-invasion
annual avoidable death rate of 8.3 per 1,000 or 8,300 /million. Assuming an
average population of 27 million this yields an estimated post-invasion
avoidable mortality of 8.3 x 27 x 4 = 896,000 i.e. 0.9 million.
(d) Using the latest 2006 Johns Hopkins data ( indicating 13.3 deaths
annually per 1,000 people and an Iraqi pre-invasion death rate of 5.5
deaths per 1,000) yields an excess death rate of 7.8 /1,000 i.e. 7,800
/million and a population of 27 million yields excess deaths = 7,800 x 27 x
4 = 842,000 i.e. 0.8 million.
(e) Taking the 2006 Johns Hopkins data but using a Jordan/Syria baseline of
4 deaths per 1,000 (as opposed to a baseline of 5.5 deaths/1,000 for Iraq
after 12 years of crippling Sanctions) gives an annual excess death rate
of 9.3 per 1,000, 9,300/million and post-invasion excess deaths totalling
9,300 x 27 x 4 = 1,004,400 i.e. 1.0 million as of March 2007.

support for the decider-in-chief prevents the US Congress from resolving to
stop funding our macho boys sexcapades with screaming teenage girls as our
victory-vipers murder their parents in the next room?
During a trial of these occupation maniacs, Sgt. Paul Cortez one of the
gang said: She kept squirming and trying to keep her legs closed and
saying stuff in Arabic. During the time me and Barker were raping Abeer, I
heard five or six gunshots that came from the bedroom. After Barker was
done, Green came out of the bedroom and said that he had killed them all,
that all of them were dead.
Cortez added, Green then placed himself between Abeers legs to rape her.
When Green was finished, he stood up and shot Abeer in the head two or
three times.
How many brutal terrorizing acts like this need to be committed before
millions of the victims sympathizers rebel in righteous revenge against
all of America and Americans?

Ahmedinejad: Iran, Saudi Arabia to fight against conspiracies
TEHERAN - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Sunday that his
first state visit to Saudi Arabia has been fruitful and the two Islamic
states agreed to jointly fight what he called "conspiracies" against the
Islamic world.
Talking to state-run Iranian TV on his return from Riyadh, he said the two
states discussed the latest developments in Iraq, Lebanon and the
Palestinian areas and vowed to increase efforts for unity within the

The American Empire and 9/11
After the attacks of 9/11, I accepted the blowback thesis, according to
which the attacks were revenge for U.S. foreign policy. This view led me to
undertake an extensive study of the American empire, the very reality of
which had been an embattled issue.
In his 2002 book American Empire, Andrew Bacevich pointed out that it had
long been a cherished American tradition [that] the United States is not
and cannot be an empire. The words American empire were fighting
words, so that uttering them was an almost sure sign that the speaker was
a left-wing critic of Americas foreign policy.[1]
Given this background information, I might have immediately concluded that
the 9/11 attacks were false-flag attacks orchestrated by the Bush
administration to enlarge the U.S. empire under the cover of the war on
terror. But when I first heard this allegation, about a year after 9/11, I
replied that I did not think even the Bush administration would do such a
heinous thing. I checked out some proffered websites but found the evidence
unconvincing. (I tell this story because of the widespread allegation that
those who call 9/11 an inside job do so because of antagonism to Bush and
Cheney and/or their policies.)

Babil Province - Al-Mahmudiyah :
After puppet Shock Troops abandon camp, mass grave of murdered Sunni
youths found near al-Mahmudiyah.
In a dispatch posted at 3:06pm Makkah time Friday afternoon, Mafkarat
al-Islam reported that people of the city of al-Mahmudiyah discovered a
mass grave inside a camp that had been used by the puppet Iraqi Interior
Ministry Shock Troops (Maghawir) on the al-Yusufiyah - al-Mahmudiyah road
about 30km south of Baghdad.
The al-Mahmudiyah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported Muhammad
al-Ghariri, the Shaykh of the al-Gharir tribe as saying that the puppet
forces had abandoned the camp two days earlier because of constant
Resistance rocket assaults. After the puppet forces had all gone, local
residents went in to find a mass graveyard next to the walls of the
camp. The makeshift cemetery contained the bodies of 42 Sunni youths whose
identities were established from the IDs still on the corpses which were
buried in shallow graves.
Shaykh al-Ghariri said that they photographed the camp and the graveyard as
proof that the puppet Interior Ministry Shock Troops (Maghawir), a force
particularly notorious for being controlled by Shii sectarian militias,
and been taking part in mass murder of local residents. They shaykh added
that they intended to give the bodies a proper Islamic burial in the
Martyrs Cemetery in al-Mahmudiyah on Friday afternoon.

Four leading Sunni tribal Shaykhs summoned to puppet army camp in south
Baghdad suburb, then murdered and dumped by the roadside.
In a dispatch posted at 3:18pm Makkah time Friday afternoon, Mafkarat
al-Islam reported that four Sunni tribal shaykhs were kidnapped in the
southern Baghdad suburb of ad-Durah on Friday morning after being summoned
to the puppet Iraqi army base there ostensibly to discuss the situation in
the area.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the bodies of the
tribal elders were found two hours later, shot to death and dumped by the
side of the road that runs by the puppet army base. The leaders were
shaykhs of the Zawbi, al-Jabbur, and ad-Dulaym tribes and represented some
of the most important Sunni tribes in Iraq.

T-shirt on a cold winter morning as he walked in front of heavily armed
Israeli soldiers on a door-to-door sweep of three apartments in a crowded

How Barack Obama learned to love Israel
I first met Democratic presidential hopeful Senator Barack Obama almost ten
years ago when, as my representative in the Illinois state senate, he came
to speak at the University of Chicago. He impressed me as progressive,
intelligent and charismatic. I distinctly remember thinking 'if only a man
of this calibre could become president one day.'
On Friday Obama gave a speech to the American Israel Public Affairs
Committee (AIPAC) in Chicago. It had been much anticipated in American

9/11 : Internet Archive Authenticates BBC Video
This video clip is part of a collection from the TV Archive of global
television coverage of the events that occurred on and shortly after
September 11, 2001.
This clip, among others, has drawn quite a bit of attention because it
appears to show a BBC reporter in New York reporting that World Trade
Center Building 7, also referred to as WTC7 or the Salomon Brothers
Building, has collapsed before it actually did collapse.
Despite some confusion on the issue of time code stamping and UTC
conversions to EDT, the timing on the clip appears to be correct. This
particular clip was recorded between 4:54 and 5:36 PM EDT. The anchor
references to the WTC7 collapsing occur at 4:58 PM and 5:01 PM and then a
live reporter says the building has collapsed at 5:08 PM in what appears to
be a live shot with the building still in tact behind her. The feed from
the live reporter is lost at 5:15 PM and then the building does actually
collapse at 5:20 PM.
