Story Line: Two unemployed youth are struggling in the big bad world of Bombay searching for a job. Shyam (Sunil Shetty) is looking forward to a job in a bank, in which his late father used to work. Raju (Akshay Kumar) too is struggling to manage with the complications of life; he has a mom in an old age home who thinks that he is a successful businessman from Calcutta. Both by a quirk of fate become tenants in Babu Rao Apte's (Paresh Rawal) house, a drunkard with a heart of gold. Who else seems to be?

Shyam is heavily into debts, has to compete for the bank job with Anuradha Panikar (Tabu), who's father also met a similar fate. Both are at each other's throat, and not ready to give up, but Shyam backs out when he sees the mess Anuradha is embroiled into. Kharak Singh (Om Puri) is a lovable and innocent surd, who has lent thirty five thousand to Shyam and needs it desperately to marry his sister, comes to town chasing him.

By another interesting turn of event, a dreaded gangster Kabeera (Gulshan Grover) kidnaps the grand child of an big industrialist (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) and calls up the trio for ransom (it is a wrong number). So all three find themselves in a tricky situation, by a wrong number. It is a conflict between their necessity and ethics, but ultimately their greed triumphs and they decide to act as a middleman and broker a deal between Kabeera and the Industrialist, with the only exception that the booty is doubled for the later.

The rest of the film is an enthralling and hilarious rigmarole depicting the trio's tryst with the Gangster and the Police.
