The Prophet e described that Allah makes the way to Paradise easy for those who tread the path in search of knowledge. In addition to that, the Prophet e also mentioned that Allah will bestow upon those who He wishes good, understanding of the religion. The Prophet e has also mentioned that one of three deeds which will not come to an end when a man dies is knowledge which is beneficial. Scholars have interpreted that knowledge which is beneficial constitutes knowledge imparted or propagated to others by any means. Furthermore, the Prophet e permitted us to envy those whom Allah has given wisdom which they teach to others. This talk will firstly deal with the importance and significance of seeking knowledge, followed by encouragement to convey and impart whatever knowledge we might posses. An Introduction to Usul al-Fiqh and al-Qiyas (English) Indeed the Qur'an & Sunnah explains every matter, but sometimes these explanations are indirect, and require a degree of analysis and deep thought. What are the principles which govern the mind in deriving a particular ruling? The answer lies in the science of Usul al-Fiqh which assists one to understand the Shari'ah and its sources. Al-Qiyas is considered by the jumhur (majority) of scholars as one of the sources of the Shari'ah. Al-Qiyâs is basically the ruling derived for a certain matter which has neither been mentioned explicitly in the Qur'an nor the Sunnah by comparing it to other matters which its ruling has been determined, due to the similarities they share. This discourse is aimed at giving an introduction to the science of Usul al-Fiqh and establish the authority of al-Qiyas with explanations to its pillars and conditions. The Clash of Civilizations; Myth or Reality (English) "On a worldwide basis, civilization seems, in many respects, to be yielding to barbarism, generating the image of an unprecedented phenomenon, a global Dark Ages, possibly descending on humanity." Is this observation made by Huntington valid? Aren't we living at the peak of human civilization? Huntington further predicts, "In the emerging era, clashes of civilizations are the greatest threat to world peace, and an international order based on civilizations is the surest safeguard against world war." Is this 'Clash' forthcoming or merely a myth? This discourse will uncover whether the clash of civilizations is inevitable prior to understanding the concept of civilization from the Islamic and Western perspectives. The Problems of the Salafi Da'wah: Realities & Challenges (English & Arabic) The 'Salafi' Da'wah has faced great opposition; it has been labelled as the cause of division in society and considered to degrade the status of scholars, in particular the Imams of the various Mazhabs. It has also invited criticisms from those inclined to the 'spiritual' nature of Islam and lately been associated with fundamentalism and extremism which lead to terrorism! These are external factors suppressing the 'Salafi' Da'wah which is not only due to the lack of understanding amongst those who oppose this call, but also fuelled by the lack of wisdom amongst those who claims to be the upholders of the Sunnah and attribute themselves as 'Salafis'. Besides facing external pressures, the 'Salafi' Da'wah from within has seen the emergence of factions which then buds back- biting, degrading and other acts alien to our pious predecessors. Differences among those who claim to be 'Salafis' are often regarded as a manifestation of swaying away from the 'manhaj' by various 'groups'! They claim to reject fanaticism to a particular mazhab but exhibit fanaticism towards a certain scholar or point of view. How do we overcome these problems to face bigger challenges confronting the Ummah? Can we work together despite differences on certain matters? This talk will address the realities and challenges facing the 'Salafi' Da'wah, both internal and external, and try to provide remedies for all the problems the Da'wah is currently suffering from. The Importance of Unity and Organising Da'wah Efforts (Arabic) Muslims are tied by the bond of faith, which is stronger than blood- ties, Allah says: "The believers are nothing else than brothers" [al- Hujurat/49: 10]. However, throughout history, we witness Muslims not able to exhibit unity under many circumstances. Didn't the Prophet e describe the believers as a single body who share difficulty and ease? With so many challenges facing the Muslim Ummah today, they cannot afford to be disunited and continuously exhibit disrespect for one another. Despite differences which might exist between them, there must be room for reconciliation and cooperation. Having a sense of belonging to one another is more significant in the field of Da'wah. Despite differences, the Du'at must be united in their stand and move hand in hand. This requires a degree of organisation and coordination between the Du'at to achieve their sole goal of calling people to seek the pleasure of Allah. This talk will address the vital need of unity among the Du'at and the necessity to organise and coordinate efforts to effectively achieve goals and objectives of Da'wah. ------------------------ Yahoo!
