Its chief executive officer, Tunku Ya'acob Tunku Abdullah said MAA Holdings' takaful arm, MAA Takaful Bhd, was currently awaiting approvals from Bank Negara Malaysia to launch its takaful products. MAA Takaful is a joint venture (JV) with Bahrain-based Solidarity Company BSC, which has a 25% interest. Tunku Ya'acob said MAA Takaful would be offering products that were similar to other takaful products in the market but with a *"more interesting"*edge. Speaking to reporters after MAA's AGM in Kuala Lumpur on June 21, he said MAA Takaful's advantage over its competitors was its insurance arm MAA Corporation Bhd's vast network of insurance agents, with 40% or 7,000 of its life agency force being bumiputra. Tunku Ya'acob said MAA Takaful could roll out its products immediately upon approval from Bank Negara as it could use MAA Corp's branches nationwide. He said MAA Takaful would eventually offer investment-linked takaful plans and was looking at the possibility of offering such plans in the Middle East through Solidarity in the next two years. Tunku Ya'acob said MAA Takaful was considering entering a JV to form a takaful business in Pakistan.
