Oleh: Pegawai Pencen I can imagine how YAB Tun Dr Mahathir feels after being rejected recently by an UMNO division which had voted him in as their leader for 30 years.
It is everywhere in this big wide world, but it seems more so in Malaysia. When you are no longer in the position of power, people don't really care two hoots anymore about you. So much for gratitude. This, sad to say, is what is happening to our Tun Dr Mahathir. What is happening to the Tun is exactly in tune with the Malay proverb - "madu dihisab, hampas dibuang". Like most societies, Malaysian society is increasingly being afflicted by that unhealthy materialistic manner of sizing people up. Most Malaysians tended to try to figure out whether a person can help him or her to make more and more money. Having been in a position of power of some sort, but now a pensioner struggling to make ends meet, I know how it is. When you are no longer in that driving seat to help people to make money, they can just look through you as if you do not exist. I know, I am a pensioner who used to be a small Head of Department. Before and now, the treatment I get is rather different, but for the honorary title I have infront of my name. I used to get some roughing up when I go to the government Ministries. When they saw my pension i/d card, and they saw the honorary title infront of my name, they can change immediately into such pleasant beings. Truly human cameleons. Really they have no shame or conscience. One minute they would be so rude just because I am a pensioner, and the next moment they can be so pleasant after seeing the title infront of my name. I sure find it helps to some extent to have an honorary title to my name. Unfortunately for our former PM, Tun Dr Mahathir, the fact that he is a Tun and was our PM for 22 years no longer carries weight because he chooses not to quietly fade away into the background. I have worked with YAB Tun and I know Tun cannot tolerate inefficiency, sloppiness, etc etc which unfortunately are the traits akin to Pak Lah's government. And the Tun bravely speaks up in criticism of Pak Lah's inefficient government, and before long the TUN becomes a PARIAH. Twenty two years as the Prime Minister, and now an untouchable. And his only crime is to speak up to ensure the country he loves don't go down the drain. That sadly is what had befallen our Tun. Poor Tun. I have worked with Tun. I don't like what Tun did to Anwar, and I took to the streets then. But I respect Tun Dr Mahathir. Yes I had participated in demonstrations against the Tun, but I also have at the same time this very high respect for Tun's overall great leadership of our country. When I recently drove northwards on our North-South freeway, I see progress and development. I could not but attribute the progress and development that we are enjoying now to the brilliant and visionary leadership of Tun Dr Mahathir. I recalled in 1979 or was it 1980. I was one of the accompanying officials to Tun Dr Mahathir who was then our Minister of Trade and Industry cum Deputy PM. He was on a working visit to Switzerland and Germany, and he also made a day trip to visit the Paris-Brussels toll highway (the only toll highway then in Europe). Tun Dr Mahathir wanted to study first hand the cost, construction and maintenance of a privatised highway. Yes the beautiful highways we have now - it was visualized and planned way back some 25 years or so by Tun Dr Mahathir. And where ever I went with our Tun Dr Mahathir when he was PM, I really could see that the Tun is a brilliant leader. And there is this charisma about him. You feel very proud to serve the Tun. You feel proud to be in his delegation. Tun makes you feel proud to be a Malaysian. Why are they now treating him like dirt. He had done so much for Malaysia. http://www.beritakmu.net/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=5398 Adat Bersendikan Hukum , Hukum Bersendikan Kitab Allah Syarak Mengata , Adat Menurut Sila layari Blog PAS N.Sembilan di http://pasns.blogspot.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
