********************* Close shave for rep as floods hit JB 2010/07/20 JOHOR BARU: An assemblywoman had a near-death experience after her car was trapped in a gush of water due to flash floods causing a three-hour-long traffic jam along busy Jalan Skudai here yesterday. The affected road saw a 10km congestion on the road leading to the city which was further compounded by the 2pm downpour that also affected several other parts here. Yong Peng state assemblywoman Lim Kee Moi, 55, was trapped in her car for about an hour when it stalled in a stream of water as she tried to change lanes at a junction leading to the city centre here about 3pm. Lim's car was passing an Iskandar Regional Development Authority (Irda) flyover construction project when the incident occurred. Lim said her car had stalled and was partially submerged in a large puddle of water, adding that several members of the public rushed to her aid and tried to help clear the road. "The car has been towed to Batu Pahat and I will follow-up by writing to Irda for an explanation and also compensation after assessing the damage to my car." It is learnt that the flash flooding in the area was due to the construction of the flyover where the contractors managing the worksite did not provide proper water outlets in anticipation of heavy rains. Irda strategic communications head, Nor Hisham Hussein confirmed there were flash floods in several areas here, including along Jalan Skudai.
