MUIS against casino in Singapore, submits paper to government Channel News Asia Friday February 11, 2005 http://sg.news.yahoo.com/050211/5/singapore131850.html SINGAPORE : The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore, or MUIS, has submitted a paper to the government, stating clearly its stand against the building of the casino.
MUIS says it is against the project on two grounds - religious and social. It also included findings of a research it did on the ill-effects of casino gambling - deemed more detrimental on youths and the lower income group. Mohd Alami Musa, President of MUIS, said: "Islam does not permit Muslims to work in casino, invest in any casino project, or support the casino project. So that is very clear from the Islamic perspective. "The effect on the lower socio-economic grouping, on youths and on people with addictive behaviour, are in fact greater compared to the other groups.
