There is nothing wrong with marrying a man that is 17 years older than you, look at the Prophet (saw) when he married Khadija, MASHALLAH. However you need to be sure that he is the right one for you.You shouldn't marry someone based on status or looks, religion is THE most important factor. Parents also have inner instincts that may foreshadow future problems, maybe age is not the only issue here? It is important to pray istikara.
