Subject: Questioning Potential Son-in-Law About His Virginity

*Questioning Potential Son-in-Law About His Virginity*

Question:

Is it permissible for a virgin girl's family to ask the person she wants
to marry whether he is a virgin (meaning committed zina) or not? Also,
if he if he did commit zina, is it okay for them to ask details, like
number of people he slept with if he sincerely repented and is resolved
to stay away from Zina? Is that relevant to why they should or shouldn't
give their daughter in marriage to him, even if he is a practicing
Muslim who is dedicated to turning his life around for the sake of Allah
(ta'ala)??

Wa'alaykum Assalam wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuhu,

*In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful & Compassionate*

It is permitted for the parents to inquire about the character and
"general past" of the suitor, but not about the details of possible
sins. Rather, they should judge the suitor by his current character and
conduct.

This issue returns to talking about sin. Please see the following links
