Press Release… 15 April 2005 All Ceylon Union of Muslim League Youth Fronts     ACUMLYF Condemns Threats Against the Al Aqsa Mosque   The All Ceylon Union of Muslim League Youth Fronts [ACUMLYF] strongly condemns the growing threats by extremist Zionist groups against the Al Aqsa Mosque. Since the start of its illegal occupation of Jerusalem, Zionist Israel has sought to change the religious composition and demographic character of the city in contravention of United Nations Security Council Resolution 267.   In August 1969 they set fire to the mosque and caused extensive damage. In recent months, Jewish extremists have intensified their threats against the compound, which houses the Dome of the Rock [Omar Mosque] and Al Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam.   The Al Aqsa Mosque is not only important to Palestinians, but is revered by the Muslims everywhere.   Recently, a private Israeli television station screened a video showing far right-Jewish extremists, including rabbis, discussing ways of occupying the site in a bid to sabotage Israel's planned withdrawal from Gaza.   While the world awaits the final phase of the Middle East Roadmap and settlement to begin, Israeli hard-line groups are evidently trying to derail peace process by provoking Palestinians to defend themselves. Hence we urge the Government of Sri Lanka, as a government that supports a Ceasefire Agreement and pursues the path of a negotiated settlement to the internal conflict, to issue an immediate notice warning the Israeli authorities of the consequences of any sabotage or harm to the Al Aqsa Mosque, which may derail the sensitive Roadmap and affect the stability in the Middle East.     All Ceylon Union of Muslim League Youth Fronts T: 0112 674006 *************************************************************************** {Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur'an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better.
