Never one to hide his passion for helping Arabs and Israelis, Muslims, Jews, and Christians to live and work together peacefully Abuna Elias Chacour is outspoken and unapologetic for his views on peace and justice. A three time nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize, Chacour inspires and energizes those who see and hear him, whether the constant flow of visitors to his Ibillin education complex in the Galilee, or the audiences that flock to speaking engagements around the world.
In constant demand as an international speaker, Abuna Chacour will be the guest of Mennonite Church Eastern Canada from May 28 to June 2, 2005, meeting both in congregations and in public settings. He brings to life, through personal example and ministry commitment, the peace teachings of Jesus, his fellow �Man from Galilee.�
Abuna Chacour, author of the huge international seller, Blood Brothers, was born to a Palestinian Christian family in the village of Biram. With his whole village he experienced the tragedy of eviction by Israeli authorities in 1947 and became a refugee. He became a citizen of Israel when the State of Israel was created in 1948.
In 1965, Abuna Chacour was appointed parish priest of the village of Ibillin, and has been there since. There he founded Mar Elias Educational Institutionswith over 260 faculty and staff and more than 3,000 students in a complex of seven institutions ranging from kindergarten to post-secondaryto fill a tremendous educational need for Palestinian students and to foster understanding and reconciliation.
