SOUTHERN SHUNEH, Jordan - Laura Bush on Saturday encouraged Middle Eastern leaders to expand women's participation in their societies as she herself took on a new role as an international goodwill ambassador.
After shying from the spotlight in her husband's first term, Mrs. Bush became the face of women taking on larger public roles with a speech to the World Economic Forum conference on the

She said she understands that fully inclusive democracy can be slow to develop. "In my country, women didn't secure the right to vote until more than a century after its founding," she said, batting away a pesky fly that repeatedly landed on her face throughout her speech. Mrs. Bush said that, besides including women, societies also must expand education for freedom to thrive. President Bush and I want a future of peace and opportunity for our own daughters and for all the world's children," she said.
In a more private setting, Mrs. Bush also used the conference to push for improvements for children back home. She touted her effort to support at-risk youth in a private meeting with members of Congress also attending the forum, including Republican Sens. John Sununu of New Hampshire, Orrin Hatch of Utah and Gordon Smith of Oregon, and Reps. Christopher Shays, R-Conn., and Jane Harman, D-Calif.

It is a shame on the Muslim world in general & the current day Scholars of Islam in particular that a Non Muslim should come & teach the Muslims about democracy, women’s rights & so forth. It seems that the current day leaders of the Muslim countries are more comfortable in listening to the Non Muslims on how to run the affairs of the Muslims than listening to the Scholars of Islam.
Why should this state of affairs prevail. Is it because the leaders of the Muslim countries have come to the conclusion that to survive in this rat race they will have to follow the dictates of the west or perish. Therefore they have relegated the scholars to pass fatwas / rulings on matters which are trivial in comparison to the major issues like the system of government, type of economy, defence issues etc. that any country requires.
These scholars are also quite content to concentrate on the trivial issues to keep them in the good books of their masters & leave the major issues to be dictated to their rulers by the west.

{Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur'an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided.}

{And who is better in speech than he who [says: "My Lord is Allah (believes in His Oneness)," and then stands straight (acts upon His Order), and] invites (men) to Allah's (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: "I am one of the Muslims."} (Holy Quran-41:33)
The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "By Allah, if Allah guides one person by you, it is better for you than the best types of camels." [al-Bukhaaree, Muslim]
The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also said, "Whoever calls to guidance will have a reward similar to the reward of the one who follows him, without the reward of either of them being lessened at all."
