Musharraf in No-Win
Situation: Secularists Don't Understand Pakistan's Surging Islamic Movement:
U.S. Media & Bush are Feeding off Misinformation
On August 2, 2005 New Trend interviewed
the Secretary General of Jamaate Islami, Syed Munawwar Hasan, in Lahore. He is
also a key leader in the Islamic coalition MMA. Here are some
excerpts:
New Trend: U.S. media and government are very upbeat
about General Musharraf. They think he is doing a great job of suppressing the
Islamic movement. How would you respond?
Br. Hasan: Musharraf is a failure both internally and
externally. He is hated all over the country, and outside the country he is not
respected. He is simply following America's orders. Islam in Pakistan
is too deep and strong for Musharraf to suppress it. U.S. media and
government get their information on Pakistan from secularized Pakistanis who are
themselves incapable of understanding Islam and Pakistan. So they give an
unrealistic picture of Musharraf's power.
New Trend: But he has ordered the deportation of
14,000 overseas Islamic students who had come to Pakistan to study. How can he
do this if he is weak?
Br. Hasan: He has to do this because he has orders from
Bush and Blair. But can he actually deport so many Muslim students? It's one
thing to say he will do it and another to actually do it. He can't
even take himself out of his uniform! What makes you think he can take 14,000
Islamic students out of Pakistan? Even from within his own party, Shujaat and
others are saying it is self-damaging to deport the Madrassa students who came
from all over the Muslim world.
New Trend: He is also challenging you on the Hisba
legislation meant to curb corruption and immorality in Frontier Province. He has
taken a "reference" to the supreme court of Pakistan to stop Hisba.
Br. Hasan: That too is a no-win situation for
Musharraf. If he wins the case, it will convince the people that he is
working against Islam and that will give impetus to our work. If we win, we will
move ahead with the historic, Islamic changes we envisage in Frontier
Province.
New Trend: In America, the authorities have convicted
Lynne Stewart for
connections with terrorists. This is a famous attorney who has spent her whole
life fighting for the rights of oppressed people. She is a grandmother now and
fought relentlessly for the rights of the blind Shaikh Dr. Omar 'Abdel Rahman.
Now they want to send her to prison.
Br. Hasan: When a powerful country like the U.S. starts
undermining and uprooting the very principles which hold it together, it means
the downfall of this great power is approaching. This is a form of
self-destruction. We will watch this case carefully.
New Trend: Do you know that Br. Kaukab Siddique is now
under attack by major Jewish organizations like the Simon Wiesenthal Center and
the American Jewish Committee?
Br. Hasan: Why didn't this happen much earlier? It shows
that New Trend is becoming effective. Victory is coming from Allah and the
oppressors will be defeated!

Rally in Atlanta for
Imam Jamil as his Prison conditions Worsen
On August 1, 2005 dozens of
Muslims as well as some non-Muslims protested in front of the Department of
Corrections office in Atlanta. They were rallying to stop the mistreatment of
Imam Jamil Abdullah al-Amin in prison.
They petitioned the prison
authorities that the Imam is being kept in 23-hours solitary confinement
and has been humiliated by being strip searched in front of female
staffers.
The rally was addressed by
a number of speakers including Ed Brown, the Imam's brother, and human
rights activist Mauri Saalakhan.
Brown said that the conditions
under which the Imam is being held are comparable to those in Iraq's Abu Ghraib
prison.
The prison authorities accepted
the petition but said that they were ignorant of the charges of mistreatment
listed in it.
Imam Jamil was sentenced for life
under the weakest evidence which certainly did not rise to the level of "beyond
a reasonable doubt." Many Muslims and activists in the African-American
community are convinced that the Imam was punished for his lifelong resistance
to the racist policies of the American power structure.

[Re: Texts of Zionist

Muslimah says: Islam is Winning
Brother Kaukab:
You know that Islam is winning when the opposition resorts to lies, fear and hatred as weapons to counteract the truth, piety, hope and courage of the Muslims. Those who wield the weapons of deceit and slander have already impaled the very doctrines they say they are defending, i.e., freedom and democracy. Keep up the good word, Brother. Fatwa issued by Bush Lackeys]
An Outstanding Imam writes in Support of Professor Kaukab Siddique:
Muslims! Be thankful to Allah t'ala for men like Kaukab Siddique. He is a
true Muslim and a true patriot. His attempt to expose the fakery and fraud of
the Muslims in America is meritorious and honorable and worthy of the support of
the grass root Muslims. There are millions who are quiet and watching the battle
of jihad as it rages. We are not afraid. We only fear Allah.
Dr. Siddique should know without a doubt that we have his back.
Others should also
know. Why are these Muslim organizations racing one another to see
who can cry first and cry the most when the enemies of Islam are attacked? Yet
as Muslims suffer they remain silent. They should know that they are
not safe with this posture. Indeed they are detrimental to the safety of
Muslims. After this so- called fatwa came the "lesser Muslims" of
MAS on C-SPAN embarrassing themselves by joining forces with the Christian Rev.
to give them credibility. We continue watching.

Re: Muslims as spies?
[New Trend report on Bray, Johari's plan to spy on Muslim
"extremists."]
Muslim woman leader says: Deal with the Real Issues
As Salaamu Alaikum,
I will be glad when our leadership can at least agree not to make broad stroke statements to the press and say they represent the Ummah when they do not ask anyone in their congregations anything about anything. I will also be glad when Muslims stop feeling like they have to apologize for everything that happens in this world. Please leaders wait first to see if the actual people involved are Muslim. Even then you do not owe anyone an apology. Do you see any
Christian Ministers apologizing for crimes committed by people who
may or may
not claim the Christian faith? Also when are we going to make enough noise that the media will stop using incorrect terms such as Islamic Terrorist? Did they say "Christian Terrorist" when bombs went off in Northern Ireland a few years ago and when Mr. Rudolph blew up the Abortion clinics, etc.? No! They did not need to. All of those acts were committed by people with twisted minds or who felt they had a righteous cause: not the church, etc. Those of you who claim to be Islamic leaders, stop demeaning Islam and find something else to do to get a 15 second sound bite. I have a suggestion for some of you. Try having a press
conference denouncing Domestic Violence in the
Islamic community. This should get you at least a 10 second spot on the evening news. Maybe 15 seconds if you do it during the month of October. ma salaam Hadayai Majeed Muslim Women's Political Action Committee [EMAIL PROTECTED]_ (mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]) ---------------------------------------------------

Much Praised
Columnist Misunderstood Martyrdom Operations: Occupation, not
brainwashing causes Islamic Resistance.
Decoding Tom Friedman
by Mike Whitney [By special permission of the author to New Trend. Suicide bomber is the
non-Muslim's term for martyrdom operator- editor]
"We fight because we are free men who don't sleep under oppression. We want to restore freedom to our nation. Just as you lay waste to our nation, So shall we lay waste to yours.. Your security is in your own hands. And every state that doesn't play with our security has automatically guaranteed its own security." Osama Bin Laden, Al Jazeera 11-01-04 "The root cause of suicide terrorism is occupation, not Islam." Robert Pape;" Al Qaeda's Smart Bombs" New York Times 7-9-05 07/25/05 "ICH" -- -- Tom Friedman is the undeclared spokesman of the American establishment. His articles represent a distillation of the current thinking among a broad range of American mandarins, particularly members of the powerful CFR; (Council on Foreign Relations) the driving force behind much of America's foreign policy. He is the imperial chronicler; the man responsible for promoting the narrow interests of elites and transforming the crimes of the empire into a narrative of generosity and goodwill. If one can decode Friedman's bi-weekly hieroglyphic, they can also understand how elites use the media to manage public perceptions. In his latest article, "Giving the Hate-mongers no place to Hide", Friedman offers his views on both terrorism and free speech. He argues that we should pay greater attention to "hate speech" and try to grasp its relationship to terrorism. Friedman sees this overheated rhetoric as such an imminent threat that he thinks the State Department should identify the top 10 hate-mongers and provide their names to the public. Apart from the McCarthy-like overtones of Friedman's proposal, it's hard to believe that his contemporaries in talk-radio would be very enthusiastic about this new idea. After all, sectarian and racial hatred have become staples on the country's airwaves, with many of the nation's top broadcasters savaging gays and Muslims on a routine basis. As Friedman knows, the issue of hate speech is normally a question of "whose ox is being gored". But, Friedman's intention is not to take aim at the "accepted" institutions of discrimination and racism within the body politic, but to single-out Muslims who vent their rage at American foreign policy and subject them to public intimidation. This can be accomplished by developing a State Dept "blacklist" of anyone who utters a word against the Fatherland and, presumably, its junior partner, Israel. "Words matter;" Friedman opines, "We need to shine a spotlight on hate speech wherever it appears. When their words are spotlighted, they often feel pressure to retract, defend or explain them". Friedman's comments echo the Stalinesque directive from Donald Rumsfeld in May of 2005, "People need to be very careful about what they say as well as very careful about what they do." Indeed, they do, but is that the function of government; to silence those with an unpopular point of view? Or, are Friedman and Rumsfeld's remarks simply intended to have a chilling effect on free speech? More importantly, does "hate speech" really generate terrorism or is there a more identifiable source? While Friedman may be concerned with "shutting people up", he's much less concerned with the real origins of terror. His own paper the New York Times ran a very scholarly article just 3 weeks ago by Robert Pape, "Al Qaeda's Smart Bombs" (7-9-05) that dismissed many of the commonly held illusions about terrorism. Pape, who documented every case of suicide bombing between 1980 and 2004, says that the "core motivating factor behind suicide terrorism" is "a nationalistic response to occupation"; "The root cause of terrorism is occupation, not Islam." Wow. Pape's "fact-based" analysis directly challenges Friedman's "hate-mongering" theory of terror. The distinction between the two hypotheses is colossal. If Friedman is correct than the West is justified in invading Muslim countries to rid them of, what Tony Blair called, "an evil ideology whose roots lie in a perverted and poisonous misinterpretation of Islam". This is the rationale that supports the US occupation of Iraq; presenting the conflict as "the central battlefield in the war on terror". However, if Pape's analysis is right then the real catalyst for terrorism is the American occupation itself; a permanent recruiting sergeant for Muslim extremists and jihadiis. If that is the case, the only reasonable solution would be a quick transfer of power and a complete withdrawal of American forces. This is not a debate that Friedman or his colleagues in the corporate establishment can afford to lose. Pape threatens to derail the Iraqi master plan by simply presenting the facts of his investigation and changing the hearts and minds of the American public. That explains why every media bullhorn is feverishly broadcasting some variant of Friedman's "hate mongering" theory; trying to keep alive the fading belief that America is fighting "Islamo-fascism" in an apocalyptic battle between good and evil. It is a storyline that grows more threadbare by the day. The UK Independent's Patrick Cockburn delivered a stunning blow to Friedman's theory just yesterday in his aptly named article, "This War is no longer Winnable". Cockburn states: "The findings of an investigation, to be published soon, into 300 young Saudis, caught and interrogated by Saudi intelligence on their way to Iraq to fight or blow themselves up, shows that very few had any previous contact with al-Qa'ida or any other terrorist organization previous to 2003. It was the invasion of Iraq which prompted their decision to die. Some 36 Saudis who did blow themselves up in Iraq did so for similar reasons, according to the same study, commissioned by the Saudi government and carried out by a US-trained Saudi researcher, Nawaf Obaid, who was given permission to speak to Saudi intelligence officers. A separate Israeli study of 154 foreign fighters in Iraq, carried out by the Global Research in International Affairs Center in Israel, also concluded that almost all had been radicalized by Iraq alone." "No contact with Al Qaida"?... "All had been radicalized by Iraq alone"? Do we need more proof then this or can we put to rest Friedman's musty ideas about Muslim "evil-doers". The source of the problem is not in the heart of Islam but in the sanctuaries of the American plutocracy, where fantasists who never held a rifle dreamt of leading the nation to war. Their muddled vision has now produced the greatest wave of terror the world has ever seen. Friedman scrupulously tip-toes around the facts so he can shift the blame onto his favorite whipping-boy; radical Islam. But the problem is not the "cancer in their midst", as Friedman claims, but the cancer in ours. "Hate mongers" were not responsible for the unprovoked invasion of Iraq. That was the cynical calculation of American mandarins and their political operatives in the White House. The war has reaped a firestorm of terror and Friedman's fabrications just keep fanning the flames. Mike Whitney lives in Washington state. ---------------------------------------
