Is the Friday prayer valid if prayed in a

room with 15 people?

Question:

About 15 people at work including me establish Friday prayer at work in one room which is used for prayers because there is no nearby mosque and we canÂ’t take much time off during lunch time. I have been told by someone that you can only read jumuÂ’a at a mosque or a place of worship where 5 times salat is offered regularly with jamat. Is this true?

Answer:

As-Salamu alaykum,

We pray that you are in the best of health and spirits.

No, this is not true. As explained in the following answers, “It is not a condition for the validity of Friday prayer that it be held at a mosque or designated prayer hall (musalla). [Shurunbulali, Imdad al-Fattah]. And a valid congregation is that “…there has to be at least three persons apart from the imam who are present from the beginning of the khutbah till the prostration of the first rakat”.

Therefore, your prayer would be valid.
