The first sword to be raised the Cause of Allah and His Prophet (s)

Az-Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) became one of the great brave men of his age. He was always ready to face any danger and to endure any pain and trouble.

During the early days of Islam, a rumor was spread one day in Mecca that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace & blessings of Allah be upon him) was made captive by the idolaters of Quraish. Someone even lied that the Prophet was martyred.

Az-Zubair, who had come home to take rest for a while, also heard this rumor. Although he was then only a boy of sixteen years he could not bear the rumor that he at once rushed out of his house with a naked un-sheathed sword in hand.

He, however, thought it necessary to ascertain the rumors that were being heard before taking any action against the idolaters. He went straight to the house of the Holy Prophet with his face being red and un sword in his hand.

Seeing him in such a state the Holy Prophet (peace & blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, "What is the matter with you brother? Why is your sword un-sheathed?"

"O Messenger of Allah," Az-Zubair started saying, "thanks to Allah that you are quite safe and secure. I would sacrifice my parents for you. I heard a rumor that the idolaters had made you captive or even martyred you."

"So, this is the matter which made you so restless," said the Holy Prophet (peace & blessings of Allah be upon him) with a smile on his face, "Well, suppose if the rumors would have been true then what would you do?"

"O Messenger of Allah", the young boy cried out, "By Allah I would have alone declared war against the whole of Mecca. I would have preferred to die than to live after you were murdered."

Hearing this statement from Az-Zubair (May Allah be pleased with him) the Holy Prophet smiled again and pointing towards the sword of Zubair he declared, "This is the first sword raised for the cause of Allah and His Prophet."

{Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur'an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided.}
(Holy Quran-16:125)

{And who is better in speech than he who [says: "My Lord is Allah (believes in His Oneness)," and then stands straight (acts upon His Order), and] invites (men) to Allah's (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: "I am one of the Muslims."} (Holy Quran-41:33)

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "By Allah, if Allah guides one person by you, it is better for you than the best types of camels." [al-Bukhaaree, Muslim]

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)  also said, "Whoever calls to guidance will have a reward similar to the reward of the one who follows him, without the reward of either of them being lessened at all."
[Muslim, Ahmad, Aboo Daawood, an-Nasaa'ee, at-Tirmidhee, Ibn Maajah]
