Knowledge is means for advancement

Sheikh Dr. Osama Bin Abdullah Khayyat, Imam and Khateeb of the Holy Mosque in Makkah urged Muslims to be God-conscious, obey Allah and refrain from what He has forbidden.

In his Friday sermon in the Holy Mosque in Makkah, Sheikh Khayyat stressed the importance of knowledge in all aspects of life and as the basis for advancement and asthe pillar of civilization. He said it is the means for the advancement of the individuals and the societies. It is through knowledge that the way to Paradise is facilitated.

Sheikh Khayyat said it is not strange that the first verse that was revealed in God s Book was the call to seek knowledge thus stressing the high standing of knowledge and reading.

Allah said in the Holy Qur an: Read! In the Name of your Lord Who has created (all that exists). He has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous. Who has taught (the writing) by the pen. He has taught man that which he knew not. (Surat Al-Alaq 96:1-5).

Sheikh Khayyat stressed the high standing of scholars and quoted several verses from the Holy Qur an and sayings of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) confirming this. Allah said: Say: Are those who know equal to those who know not? (Surah Al-Zumar, 39:9).

Meanwhile, Sheikh Ali Abdul Rahman Al-Hudhaifi, Imam and Khateeb of the Prophet s Mosque in Madina said that the greatest blessing from God to His servants is the religion of Islam and the greatest thing that undermines the religion is the emergence of heresies (bida ). The person who invents heresies thinks he is right but he is wrong. Self-admiration is among the heresies as a person who admires himself is not ready to accept any advice or guidance.

He advised those who deviated from the consensus of Muslims and disobeyed the rulers to contemplate on these terrorist acts that have caused a lot of destruction and harm and have distorted the image of Islam.

He said Islam has nothing to do with their deeds.

He advised them to ask the knowledgeable religious scholars on matters pertaining to religion and not resort to rulings (fatawa) and books that encourage heresy and deviation from the path of the forefathers.

{Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur'an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided.}
(Holy Quran-16:125)

{And who is better in speech than he who [says: "My Lord is Allah (believes in His Oneness)," and then stands straight (acts upon His Order), and] invites (men) to Allah's (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: "I am one of the Muslims."} (Holy Quran-41:33)

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "By Allah, if Allah guides one person by you, it is better for you than the best types of camels." [al-Bukhaaree, Muslim]

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)  also said, "Whoever calls to guidance will have a reward similar to the reward of the one who follows him, without the reward of either of them being lessened at all."
[Muslim, Ahmad, Aboo Daawood, an-Nasaa'ee, at-Tirmidhee, Ibn Maajah]
