Alhumdullah, Sister Letha. Thank you for your kind words. While I believe the views expressed in genral by African American Muslims to be "Islam Proper" rather than "Black Islam", I understand your sentiments. The saying "We have made you tribes and nations that you may know one another, not that you may dispise each other," is applicable here. African American Muslims do not have to hide their identity or ethnic background and experiences when expressing their points of view on either ethnic or non-ethnic issues.
By openly expressing our views in the general Muslim population, I believe we earn much neglected respect, just by candidly presenting our points of views, supported by solid Islamic priciples. The Truth, regardless of who speaks it has a self supporting strength of its own. And Truth stands clear from falsehood.
In general I have found that African American Muslims, in these forums, demonstrate a clear, sound understanding of Islamic principles, free of lonstanding national traditions and customs that contradict them.
The same is true for the _expression_ of our points of view in society in general. We can present the Islamic perspective, with out ever mentioning the words "Islam", "Muslim", "Muhammad" or Allah. Just present our view of reality, and the Truth will be recognized by the intelligent.
I believe these Islamic internet forums is one of the best ways to demonstrate the African American's understanding of Islamic principles to the greater Muslim community. Along with, of course, living the religion, and demonstrating by example proper Islamic life .
