Brother Khan Zahid
Laments:
The niqab has been banned at Imperial College, London! A recent dress code policy, passed by the Management Board of Imperial College on 21st October, states, employees and students should refrain from wearing clothing which obscures the face such as a full or half veil.
My comments:
The Management of this college, is doing the right thing in this regard.
What the Muslims fail to adopt ( or correct) or overdo things in excess of what is actually required, Allahs Mercy steps in to correct the situation in ways which we cannot understand.
When the rule is: not obligatory to cover the face, or the hands below the writs, in contravention, we do something else, and this is the result.!
What is the ruling for wearing the 'Niqaab' (face- veil) these days, and gloves? And further, if she feels there is a chance of 'fitnah' so she wants to wear this, but the parents refuse to let her, then what should she do? Shaykh Muhammad Naasir ad-Deen al-Albaani
Ans. If their refusal only refers to her not covering her face and hands, then she has to obey her parents in that, but if their refusal includes more than that, then, "There is no obedience to the creation in disobedience to the Creator." Since covering the body except for the face and hands is obligatory for the Muslim woman, and covering her face and hands is not obligatory but 'mustahabb' (recommended). So if the parents do not want her to cover her face and hands, then there is no harm in her obeying them and no sin in it, as opposed to what would be the case if they wished her to uncover other than that, in which case she owes no obedience to them since that is a sin.
May sanity prevail.

| BACKGROUND |
The niqab has been banned at Imperial College, London! A recent dress code policy, passed by the Management Board of Imperial College on 21st October, states, employees and students should refrain from wearing clothing which obscures the face such as a full or half veil. While the policy also states that religious reasons will be considered, thi! s will not be of any comfort to any Sisters who are continuously stoped to reveal their face, and will have to walk around campus with an air of suspicion surrounding them.
Furthermore, Muslim student and staff have had their regular location for Jummah taken away from them, without a permanent alternative being provided. FOSIS has already been made aware of other universities who are taking steps to remove prayer rooms from campuses.

| ACTION PLAN |
We strongly urge you to take the appropriate steps to stop these actions against Muslim students.
Please write to Imperial College London (contact details below) urging the university to revoke these policies which are a direct violation of the values and beliefs of this country and will only lead to further isolation and discontentment within communities. Also state that it is imperative that Muslims ! are given somewhere to carry out their religious obligations.
Please sign the online petition which will be sent to the University. This is available at http://new.petitiononline.com/mal2034/petition.html.
Make dua for the Brothers and Sisters at Imperial College.

{Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur'an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. {And who is better in speech than he who [says: "My Lord is Allah (believes in His Oneness)," and then stands straight (acts upon His Order), and] invites (men) to Allah's (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: "I am one of the Muslims."} (Holy Quran-41:33)
The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "By Allah, if Allah guides one person by you, it is better for you than the best types of camels." [al-Bukhaaree, Muslim]
