Hajj Tips: Part 2: Dealing with the crowd.

Sometimes it's impossible to avoid the crowd, but rather we have to deal
with it. Follows some helpful tips in those situations.

Get ready BEFORE you enter the crowd
=============================
First open your slippers and pack those somewhere. Not only will you lose
the slippers if you don't do it, but also a thousand such slippers will
stack up and cause others to tumble. Such stacks are one major reason why
people tumble to death in dense crowds.

Next put both your hands straight down, don't fold you elbow and press or
touch the one in front of you. This tip specially applies during Tawaf,
while approaching the black near the black stone, when the crowd is almost
always heavy. Now to keep your balance . . .

Press backwards, and NOT forward
==========================
The crowd will always press you from your back. But remember NOT to counter
your balance by pressing the person in front of you. Rather lean back and
start pushing backwards using your back. Thus you will give support to the
one right behind you and also help the pressure from being propagating
forward. An important condition for Mabrub Hajj is that we don't directly
harm anyone neither do we indirectly cause any trouble to any one. And don't
stand still. Continue crawling forward inch by inch while the area cleans
up, all while you are pressing back.

Choose your time for performing Tawaf
============================
Most heavy crowd: After Fajar salat to 8:00 morning. And after Asar till
Magrib.
Comparatively light: From 8:00 morning to 10:00.
The above is day time statistics only.

It takes about 30 minutes to perform a Tawaf during light population. That
time can rise up to 2 hours in heavy dense situations.

Best time for stoning
===============
10 th Dhul Hajj: Any time after 1:00 noon.

11 th Dhul Hajj: Density is almost constant through out the day spanning
over to mid night, though not as high as the first day. But still dense
enough to be careful. Best time seems to be after 2:00 to 4:00 at noon.

12 th Dhul Hajj: On this day most people want to stone and leave Mina before
sunset. This brings in yet another rush in the first hours. The crowd is
extremely dense starting from 12:00 till 3:00. But falls down at around 4:00
afternoon. Pick this time, if you can do so. You still will have ample of
time still to leave Mina before sunset. Remember reaching Makka before
sunset is not the conditions here! Just crossing the border of Mina is. And
border of Mina is only a 5 to 10 minute walk from the Jamarat area.

To be continued in part 3: Insha Allah

Feel free to forward it to anyone you think will benefit from these
information, with corrections that you deem is necessary. Remember to
forward me a copy of your own tips.

Was-salam.
Your brother in Islam.

{Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom
(i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur'an) and fair preaching, and argue
with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone
astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided.}
(Holy Quran-16:125)

{And who is better in speech than he who [says: "My Lord is Allah (believes in
His Oneness)," and then stands straight (acts upon His Order), and] invites
(men) to Allah's (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: "I
am one of the Muslims."} (Holy Quran-41:33)

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "By Allah, if
Allah guides one person by you, it is better for you than the best types of
camels." [al-Bukhaaree, Muslim]

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also said, "Whoever
calls to guidance will have a reward similar to the reward of the one who
follows him, without the reward of either of them being lessened at all."
