as-salamu `alaykum wa rahmatullah: Events similar to events occuring now, have occured before, the following pamphlet was written some years ago (by myself), as a productive da`wah tool related to informing about the Prophet Muhammad (sall Allahu `alaihi wa sallam). I believe that productive da`wah work is more correct than reactionism. I thought that at this time it may be useful for some to copy the material and forward it to others for da`wah purposes, the printed pamphlet is also available, as our organization is non-profit, and uses its funds from booksales and donations for the production of such productive da`wah materials:

Sermons of Wisdom
By God’s Messenger

Compiled by Tony Salvatore Sylvester

The Muslim people consider Muhammad to be the last prophet and messenger that God sent to guide the world to the true religion. That religion centers around monotheism, or the belief in one supreme God. The name of Muhammad’s father was Abdullah, and his mother’s name was Aminah. However, his father died while he was in his mother’s womb.

Muhammad was born near the end of April in the year 571 of the Christian Era, his mother died while he was very young, and later, he was raised by one of his uncles.

As a young man, Muhammad had a good reputation among his people in the Arabian city of Mecca. It was after marriage, at the age of about forty, during retreats to the wilderness for contemplation of the divine truths, when Muslims believe that God revealed His first revelation of the Koran (Qur’an) to Muhammad.

However, this revelation is not all we have from Muhammad. Rather, he also gave his followers teachings and sermons besides those believed to be the revelation in the Koran (Qur’an). These traditions, or teachings of Muhammad are called “hadith.” It is from those compilations of such teachings, which Muslims consider genuine, that these sayings of wisdom are translated.

“The parable of the house in which God is remembered and the house in which God is not remembered is that of the living and the dead.”

“God has written the good deeds and the bad deeds, and He has explained how they shall be achieved: Whoever intends to do a good deed but does not, God will record it as one good deed for him. But if he intends to do it and does so, He will record it as ten to seven-hundred or more good deeds. Whoever intended to a bad deed and does not, God will record that as one good deed for him. But if he intended it and did it, then it will be recorded as merely one bad deed.”

“If the son of Adam had two valleys full of wealth, he would not be satisfied until he had a third. Nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except dust. Yet, God accepts the repentance of the penitent.”

“On the Day of Judgment God Almighty will say, ‘O son of Adam! I was sick but you did not visit me.’ The person will respond, ‘O Lord! How could I visit you and you are the Lord of the Worlds?’ He will say, ‘Did you not know that my servant so and so was ill, but you did not visit him? Did you not know that if you visited him, then you would have found me with Him? O son of Adam! I was hungry but you fed me not.’ The person will say, ‘O Lord! How could you be hungry and you are the Lord of the Worlds?’ He will say: ‘Did you not know that my servant was hungry yet you did not feed him. Did you not know that had you fed him you would have found me with him?…’”

“One who shows no mercy shall be shown no mercy.”

“The faithful is one who loves for his brother what he loves for himself.”

“Whoever guides to good, he receives rewards similar to the one who acts upon it.”

“Whoever wants to be heard of, God will make him heard of. Whoever wants to be seen, God will show him, and whoever is harsh, God will be harsh with him.”

“The best of you are those best to their wives.”

“Oppression will be a darkness on the Day of Resurrection”

“The most hated man to God is the most argumentative.”

“Whoever fulfills the needs of his brother, God will fulfill his needs.”

“The hand giving is better than the hand receiving.”

“Whoever wants to have ample provisions and an extended life, then let him nurture his ties of kinship.”

“Whoever has faith in God and the hereafter then let him nurture the ties of kinship.”

“The faithful is one the people’s wealth and lives are secure from.”

“Beware of the supplication of the oppressed, for there is no barrier between it and God.”

“I will be the host in a house in Heaven for one who gives up arguing, even though he is right.”

“Look to those below you not those above you.”

“There is a reward for every good done to every living creature.”

“Do you know who the rich person is? The rich person is not the one with many possessions; the rich is he who is content with himself.”

“The world is a parable of the son of Adam. Look at what comes out of him; even if it is salted and seasoned, consider its end result.”

“Whoever among you is able to protect himself from Hell, then let him do so. Be it even with a piece of a date.”

“The world compared to the hereafter is like one of you placing his finger into the sea; look at what he brings out of it!”

“Whoever awoke having a sense of security, with his provisions for the day, it is as if he has acquired the world and all that is in it”

“Health and leisure are two blessings that most people are neglectful of.”

“Whatever is elevated in this life, God will humiliate it in the hereafter.”

“Indeed God does not look at your bodies nor your appearances, rather He looks at your hearts and your works.”

“The one who takes back his gift is like the dog who takes back his vomit.”

“God has written the share of fornication for the son of Adam, whether he realizes it or not. The fornication of the eye is the look, the fornication of the tongue is the utterance. The soul craves and desires, and the private parts fulfill or reject it.”

“He who guarantees for me what is between his legs and his lips, I guarantee him Heaven.”

“Disobedience is God’s sanctuary. Whoever grazes near the sanctuary, he will soon wind up in it.”

“Modesty is a branch of faith.”

“If you were not sinners God would create others who would sin and repent so He could forgive them.”

“The parable of the one who teaches good to people but forgets it himself is that of a torch that lights the way for people while burning itself.”

“Help your brother whether he is an oppressor or oppressed.”

He was asked; “O Messenger of God! We understand helping the oppressed, but how can we help the oppressor?” He replied,

“By preventing him from oppression, that is how you help him.”

“Leave what makes you doubt for what does not make you doubt.”

“Information is not like observation. Moses did not smash the tablets when His Lord told him what his people were doing. But when he saw what the people were doing, it was only then that he smashed the tablets.”

“If you were not sinners I would fear what is worse than that for you; pride.”

“He is not one of us who does not have mercy on our youth nor respect the rights of our elders.”

“The parable of those who abide by God’s regulations and those who violate them is that of some people who drew lots for their places on a boat. Some of them got to sit in the upper deck and others in the lower section. When those in the lower section needed water, they had to go up to bring the water. So they said, ‘Let us make a hole in our part of the boat so we can save those above us the trouble.’ If the people in the upper deck let the others do what they wanted, all of them would perish, but if they prevent them then they would all be saved.”

“He who cheats is not one of us.”

“I was not sent as one who curses, but as a
mercy.”

“People are like camels, out of one hundred, you can hardly find one good enough to ride.”

“Whoever likes to meet God, then God likes to meet him, and whoever dislikes to meet God, then God dislikes meeting him.”

“The faithful are like one structure, each part supports the other.”

“Removing something harmful from the road is charity.”

“Whoever dies defending his wealth, he is a martyr.”

“On the Day of Resurrection, God will grab the earth and the heavens with his right hand and say, ‘I am the King!’ Where are the tyrants, where are the proud!”

“Whoever takes a road seeking knowledge, God will make the road to Heaven easy for him.”

“Whoever has faith in God and the hereafter then let him utter good or keep silent.”

“Whoever has faith in God and the hereafter then let him honor his guest.”

“Whoever has faith in God and the hereafter then let him be generous to his neighbor.”

“Whoever does not leave false speech and acting according to it, then God is not in need of his leaving food and drink.”

“When God wants good for a person, He gives him understanding.”

“And, when God wants good for a person, He tries him.”

“The parable of the righteous gathering is that of a dealer of fragrant perfumes. Even if you aren’t given some, at least you will get to smell it. The parable of the evil gathering is that of the blacksmith; even if your clothes don’t get burnt, you will still get a bad smell.”

“The parable of the five daily prayers is that of a river flowing next to your door, if you wash in it every day five times, would there remain any dirt on you?”

“God has said, ‘I will be the opponent of three on the Day of Judgment: One who is entrusted with something for my sake, but he proves treacherous; one who sells a free person into slavery and consumes his price; and one who employs a laborer for the full work but does not pay him his wages.’”

{Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur'an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided.}
(Holy Quran-16:125)

{And who is better in speech than he who [says: "My Lord is Allah (believes in His Oneness)," and then stands straight (acts upon His Order), and] invites (men) to Allah's (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: "I am one of the Muslims."} (Holy Quran-41:33)

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "By Allah, if Allah guides one person by you, it is better for you than the best types of camels." [al-Bukhaaree, Muslim]

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)  also said, "Whoever calls to guidance will have a reward similar to the reward of the one who follows him, without the reward of either of them being lessened at all."
[Muslim, Ahmad, Aboo Daawood, an-Nasaa'ee, at-Tirmidhee, Ibn Maajah]
