“O ye who believe! If ye listen to a faction among the People of the Book, they would (indeed) render you apostates after ye have believed!”

AMMAN (AFP) - Home Secretary Charles Clarke arrives in Jordan for talks with King Abdullah II on combating terrorism and efforts to spread the moderate image of Islam, the British embassy said.

Clarke is expected to meet on Tuesday with King Abdullah, Interior Minister Eid Fayez and the Minister of Awkaf and Religious Affairs Abdel Fattah Saleh, the embassy said in a statement. Talks will center "on a range of issues of common interest, including cooperation on promoting the 'Amman Message' and combating extremism and terrorism," the statement added.

In November 2004 King Abdullah II launched a document known as the "Amman Message" in a bid to encourage fellow Muslims to reject extremism and embrace tolerance and acceptance.

Clarke's visit to Jordan comes six months after Britain signed an extradition agreement with Jordan as part of efforts to crackdown on "terrorism" suspects after the July 7 London bombings. The deal, finalised in August, is expected to be used to extradite to Amman London-based radical Muslim cleric Abu Qatada, who is reputed to be the "ambassador" of     Osama bin Laden's Al-Qaeda network in Europe.

The Jordanian cleric arrested in Britain after the London July bombings is wanted in Jordan on charges of plotting to stage terrorist attacks -- a crime which carries a sentence of up to 15 years in prison. In October, Britain and Jordan tasked an independent Jordanian rights organisation to monitor suspects detained in line with the extradition agreement, after allegations were made deportees could be subject to torure in Jordan.

{Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur'an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided.}
(Holy Quran-16:125)

{And who is better in speech than he who [says: "My Lord is Allah (believes in His Oneness)," and then stands straight (acts upon His Order), and] invites (men) to Allah's (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: "I am one of the Muslims."} (Holy Quran-41:33)

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "By Allah, if Allah guides one person by you, it is better for you than the best types of camels." [al-Bukhaaree, Muslim]

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)  also said, "Whoever calls to guidance will have a reward similar to the reward of the one who follows him, without the reward of either of them being lessened at all."
[Muslim, Ahmad, Aboo Daawood, an-Nasaa'ee, at-Tirmidhee, Ibn Maajah]
