I have a number of problems with this letter. Foremost is that it violates the fundamentals of Al-Walaa wal-Baraa, and having no closeness or alliance towards the Kuffar who fight our Muslim brothers and sisters. Anyone who aids the Kuffar in fighting against other Muslims, automatically becomes a Kafir Murtad according to the Shari'ah.

"dedication and sacrifices in defense of this land together with Americans of varied faiths and salient cultures."...These wars had nothing to do with "defending" America. Since the 1898 Spanish-American War, all wars in which the US government engaged itself in, were wars of imperialism. This government is dominated by Zionists and Globalists, and fights for clearly jewish/capitalist objectives.

The writer talks about the "noble gesture" of building a masjid. What does he think about the atrocities in Iraq and Afghanistan? What does he think about the blind American support to the Zionist state? Are these things a "noble gesture"?

Finally, the last objection is his using the phrase "G-d" in such a manner. There is nothing in Islamic Law or Tradition to use such a phrase, and indeed it is imitation of the Kuffar (specifically the jews) which has no basis in our Deen. But then again, given the tone of the rest of the letter, it is not surprising the writer would want to imitate jewish customs.

Was-Salaam,
Suhaib Jobst

{Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur'an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided.} (Holy Quran-16:125)

{And who is better in speech than he who [says: "My Lord is Allah (believes in His Oneness)," and then stands straight (acts upon His Order), and] invites (men) to Allah's (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: "I am one of the Muslims."} (Holy Quran-41:33)

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "By Allah, if Allah guides one person by you, it is better for you than the best types of camels." [al-Bukhaaree, Muslim]

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)  also said, "Whoever calls to guidance will have a reward similar to the reward of the one who follows him, without the reward of either of them being lessened at all." [Muslim, Ahmad, Aboo Daawood, an-Nasaa'ee, at-Tirmidhee, Ibn Maajah]
