Somalia: Zawahiri Urges Islamist Movement to Continue Jihad Shabelle Media Network (Mogadishu) February 14, 2007 Posted to the web February 14, 2007 Aweys Osman Yusuf Mogadishu In a video tape posted on the internet, Al- Qaeda's second in command Aymen al-Zawahiri has praised what he called the jihadists in Somalia. He said they are on the righteous path which leads them to paradise. He said the Islamic fighters in Somalia are in holy struggle with foreign occupiers, offering an individual praise to the leader of the ousted Islamic Courts Union, Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed.
Al-Zawahiri said Sheik Ahmed is in the hands of an enemy. To verify the authenticity of the tape, the American Institute of SAID which keeps up with the movement of al-Qaeda network curtained the voice of the tape was al-Qaeda's second in-command Leaders of the Islamic movement have vowed to launch an Iraq-style guerrilla war in Somalia, and Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda deputy Ayman al-Zawahiri has called on Islamist hardliners to carry out suicide attacks on the Ethiopian troops.
