They have been called one of the world's most persecuted people. Some argue that they are also one of the most forgotten.
Recently the massacres in Gaza have received lot of publicity allhamdulillah but many other atrocities are being committed against our brothers/sisters all over the world. One of the cases which is known by very few Muslims is the case of Rohingya Muslims who live in the Arakan region of Burma. They have been living in Burma since approximately 670CE. In last 20 years since the brutal Burmese military junta has come to power, they have been prosecuted in the most brutal manner. http://english.aljazeera.net/news/as...449163111.html 1. Rohingya Muslims are now stateless since the Burmese regime has taken away their citizenship and declared that they are not the people of Burma even though they have been living in Arakan for over 1500 years now. For decades this Muslim group of ethnic-Indo origins have been considered the lowest of the low in this mainly Buddhist country. 2. They are forced to convert to Buddhism. 3. They cannot marry without the permission of the Burmese military and the permit for marriage cost huge amount which most can't afford. 4. They cannot travel to another village near by without a permit which again cost a lot of money and makes trade impossible. 5. They are forced to work free to build roads and buildings for the Burmese army. 6. Out of 3.5 million nearly have had to flee the country, 200, 000 are currently living as refugees in Bangladesh. 7. Even when they flee their inhumane conditions in Burma they are then sent back or tortured by the Thai regime. You can find more information about Rohingya Muslims at: http://www.rohingya.org/ Narrated 'Abdullah bin Umar: Allah's Apostle said, "A Muslim is a brother of another Muslim, so he should not oppress him, nor should he hand him over to an oppressor. Whoever fulfilled the needs of his brother, Allah will fulfil his needs; whoever brought his (Muslim) brother out of a discomfort, Allah will bring him out of the discomforts of the Day of Resurrection, and whoever screened a Muslim, Allah will screen him on the Day of Resurrection ." - [Sahih Bukhari] Remember them in your Dua as they get no attention and very little help from the ummah. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SubhanAllah, it's about time we stand up for these (forgotten) brothers of ours ... this issue has been highlighted in the news since January you know.
