NEWARK -- A former information technology administrator for the city of
Hoboken pleaded guilty in Newark federal court today to hacking into
Mayor Dawn Zimmer's email account to spy on her and other staff members.
Patrick Ricciardi, 46, who was the chief IT officer for the mayor's
office, pleaded guilty to three counts -- accessing a computer without
authorization, intercepting wire and electronics communications, and
disclosure of wire and electronic communications to a third party.
Answering, “Yes, your Honor” to questions posed by the Federal Judge
Esther Salas, Ricciardi admitted allegations that he used his position
as IT administrator to access email accounts belonging to the mayor and
other staff in order to spy on them.
Ricciardi, also admitted that he set up an archive on his computer to
store emails sent to the mayor and her “top lieutenants” and disclosed
the information to other people within Hoboken City Hall.
