It'll be faster, certainly - but poll/select will bite you once you start
really loading it down with concurrent connections.

Squid-3, in development at the moment, has support for event-drive IO
mechanisms (epoll, kqueue at the moment) which reduce that somewhat.
(Squid has inefficiencies in other areas which we're working on.)
