Networking Professionals: Qualmax has also been victim of theft and fraud and I appreciate Peter's warning. The vast majority of the companies on this forum are hardworking professionals who operate with the utmost integrity. I have had the pleasure of working with many of you.
In the last year we have had a number of individuals and companies write bad checks. In one case, we had an individual intentionally and maliciously write a bad check for $24,000 for a CISCO access server. I have been told that this individual has bragged about ripping us off. I know of at least two other reputable dealers who market in this forum who have been ripped off by him as well, not to mention a slew of customers. He has recently been trying to pre-sell new CISCO access servers saying that he can deliver in 10 days if you prepay him. Please don't be foolish enough to prepay for equipment unless you can verify the background of this individual and company. Many of us have been posting messages on this board for years. There are many reliable vendors on this list who can be used as character witnesses. There is also a repeated scam that has been going on that you should be aware of. There are a few individuals out there who have built up credit lines with CISCO or large VAR's with the intention of not paying their bill, closing shop, and repeating the process. It is my understanding that the FBI is investigating a number of these people as we speak. Remember, that anyone who buys stolen equipment is culpable. It is our responsibility to verify the legitimacy of any equipment that we purchase both new and used. The bottom line is that if you can't get at least a few reliable references from the many vendors who use this forum than expect that it is a bad deal waiting to happen. If someone promises you money everyday for an extended period you can bet that you are being conned through deceipt and it is your responsiblity to inform everyone on the list if not by name then atleast through the scheme they are using to con people. This is the means he is "buying time" to rob someone else to pay you back which makes you somewhat responsible for everyone else getting ripped off. We were the 4th out of 5 companies (we know of) to get ripped off and we immediately (after 10 days) wrote the money off and contacted the authorities to protect everyone else. Also, this individual currently has Access Server gear listed for sale on the ISP list that we have reason to believe he does not have and will not have and if you wire transfer prepay him you will never get your money or equipment. Please beware and understand our position is to prosecute anyone committing fraudulant acts to the full extent of the law, money comes second to us we will happily write it off as a loss to help our hardware bretheren not become victims.
