Hi Dave,
The excerpt below is from an old internal FAQ we had. I believe this
information is still valid, but I've copied our Technical Product Manager
for this product so he can correct me or add more detail.
Q: During the System Scanner NT installation you are given the option to
name a "Backup Manager System" and an "Audit Manger System". What are they?
A: The Backup Manager is so another console can talk to the agents in case
the primary Console system is inaccessible for whatever reason. The Audit
Manager is described below...
We view typical System Scanner customers as having 2 uses for System Scanner
- the day-to-day security management performed by the Security/Sysadmin
teams, and spot audits performed by the audit department. The audit
controller is for the audit department to do a random inspection on the
agent without having to get permission from the security department
(independent check & balance).
Hope this helps,
sheila

can I control an SS4 NT agent with another console?
What is the correct way to install same? The manual does not mention
backup or audit consoles, which the agent asks to be named at agent
installation time.
What if later I would like to use another console, such as a carry in
laptop?
Is there a registry setting or something that allows the new console to
participate?
My assumption was that a backup console would need to have the cert keys
that the console had, and in fact when installing a backup console you
are reminded to copy the CA from the primary console machine to the
backup console machine. I deduced that this ment firing up the console
and generating console keys for all machines which could be consoles,
which it did happily. Whenever I launch a backup console it gives the
error "please copy the CA directory from the primary console", which I
took as a strong hint. Then I copied its CA folder to the backup console
machine. But no luck same error.....
can you shed any light?
please address these features in the manual please.
