This release is a significant step forward for ISS and our customers, and provides: Reducing the window of vulnerability. The availability of RealSecure 5.0 introduces solutions to several customer needs, the most important of which is currency with the latest attacks. The fertile landscape of the Internet supports rapidly mutating attacks tools. RealSecure now has X-Press Update capability, a technology that allows customers to take full advantage of the ISS X-force research team. From the ISS website, customers can download just the latest attack signatures and remotely distribute them to their sensors. With over 500 signatures built into RealSecure already, ISS now has the mechanism for regular signature updates as well as emergency updates in the face of highly dangerous attacks. Furthermore, RealSecure customers can remain assured that the attack signatures have been designed for optimum performance and reliability. As always, our signatures are verified, QA tested and digitally signed for authentication within the product. Improved remote management of sensors. More and more RealSecure customers are deploying sensors remotely. The RealSecure X-Press Update mechanism also supports the ability to completely upgrade sensors to the new version. Once RealSecure 5.0 is installed on a sensor, customers can upgrade that sensor to the next released version from a remote or centralized RealSecure WorkGroup Manager (formerly called the Console). This makes it easier to manage more sensors. Simplifying management. The Xpress Update simplifies the process by automatically pointing you to the latest, cumulative update for a sensor. Its easy-to-use design ensures that only the software appropriate for your platform is installed. Better server coverage. RealSecure also improves its adaptability to your environment in this release by offering the OS Sensor on two new platforms: HP UX and AIX . This exciting development extends RealSecure's ability to protect your servers and integrates the real-time information into the RealSecure WorkGroup Manager. Again, ease-to-use policy design simplifies configuration across multiple platform types. Retail Status. RealSecure 5.0 is classified as a "retail" product for encryption export purposes. This classification allows distributing the identical strong encryption capabilities to both domestic and international customers. Shipping strong encryption worldwide increases the availability of our most secure intrusion detection capabilities as well as reducing paperwork and other issues for export sales. Developing and testing only one version of the product will enable ISS to better focus our efforts on ongoing product enhancements and evolution. Network Sensor Enhancements: RealSecure 5.0 Network Sensors include improvements in the html attack signature logic that improve performance and reduce false positives. Also in this release the Network Sensor includes packet fragmentation reassembly, allowing RealSecure to detect attacks that have been sent through fragmented packets. This eliminates the threat of evasion techniques such as Frag Routers. As always, the new release includes 80+ new decodes, including detection of many new backdoor tools, telnet and http attacks, and the DDOS attack tools tfn2k and stachledraht. OS Sensor Enhancements: In addition to the new platforms, the OS Sensor on all platforms (NT, Solaris, HPUX and AIX) introduces the ability to monitor any generic text log. Now you can add your custom applications to RealSecure. With new enhancements to the user defined signature capability in the OS Sensors, RealSecure applies its real-time monitoring for user-defined security events on the OS.
