Hi all; F.Y.I. I understand that most do not use the tool without keys, but
I wanted to let you know of this issue in case there are other issues
surrounding this one.

Recent update on the crash issue. While in contact with John we both
discovered that Express update 6 does in fact have a bug in it! The bug is
limited to the default operation of the tool when no key file is present.

ISS startup transaction.

all .key files are removed from the Scanner6 directory prior to test.

.Start ISS
.Dialogue box appears
"No valid license keys found. The License maintenance date has expired for a
license key; Only loopback scans may be performed."

.Click OK
.Dialogue box appears
"the policy manager could not be started
General access denied error [ID=0x80070005]"

.At the same time the General window displays.
"---LOTS OF ERRORS ABOUT FAILURE TO LOAD EXPLOITS---
Loaded 560 of 856 Exploits.
Demo Mode; No valid License keys found; module C:\Program
Files\ISS\Scanner6\Pligins\PliginResources.dll will not be loaded
Failed to load Resource Manager Name Resolver"

.Click OK
ISS gracefully shuts down logging activity in the log files (included).

------

Net solution.

Always have valid license keys in the Scanner6 directory until ISS can fix
this problem.

BEWARE the Xpress Update number 6 will crash your ISS application. I have
been able to recover the application by uninstalling the Xpress Update #6
using the uninstall feature. When you uninstall the update number 6 is not
available, but if you uninstall number 5 the system will confirm that number
6 was successfully uninstalled - and then indicate that 1 through 5 are
installed.

This is confusing. If you have questions please give me a call.

Regards,
John
