INTERNET THREAT & SOLUTIONS UPDATE for Oct 25th - Oct 29th, 2001
ISS X-Force Special Operations Group

- ----------------------------------------
CURRENT THREAT ASSESSMENT & THREAT FORECAST
- ----------------------------------------

AlertCon 1 Today, Oct 25th, 2001
AlertCon 1 For Oct 26th-29th, 2001

*************

- - We remain at AlertCon 1 and project this out through mid-day Monday.

- - While AlertCon 1 is our lowest level, it is by no means 'low'. There
is no such thing as a low threat level on the Internet. Automated, 24
x 7 reconnaissance for vulnerabilities, weaknesses in access
permissions, back door availability, etc are constant and exploitation
is instantaneous.

- - We advise using this time of reduced chaos on the Internet to work
off the backlog of patches, configuration updates, stronger
permissions, defensive blocking, user account scrubs.
