Hi *** Has anybody set up RealSecure v6+ writing to DIFFERENT EVENT DATABASES on the same SQL host? I'm working for a company which would like to run several separate intrusion-detection infrastructures, across the UK, all reporting back to the same back-end server running SQL. They want to use the same server since it will be high-powered and fully resilient, however they've said that they would like to store the data in different databases: one per IDS environment. They want to do this so that they can do maintenance on the databases separately, and apply security to them separately, and control their growth separately etc. I'm talking here about ISSED, the asset database is less important. I asked ISS whether we could their databases, eg for one IDS infrastructure (set of event collectors) to write to ISSED1 and another infrastructure to write to ISSED2. They said this might be possible, but when i asked if it was supported they said no. I then asked whether we could run multiple 'instances' on the same back-end server, so that each IDS infrastructure would write to a database called 'ISSED' but it would be in a different 'instance'. ISS indicated that this would be acceptable. I've begun playing around with v65, and running the WGM installation which includes components for Asset and Enterprise databases, but I can't figure out what's going on behind the scenes. It looks, from what i've seen so far, that the Asset and Enterprise database components apply themselves to the host where you're installing them (the Console component, and probably the Event Collector one too, have the decency to ask where the databases are located - but even then I don't know whether they're asking for the server name or instance name). I'm hastily brushing up on my SQL skills, meanwhile if anybody has played around with RealSecure database names or anything else in this area I would greatly like to know (both successes AND failures!).
