Hi Robert,

I've seen problems with XPU updates on NT-based v5 Network Sensors -
the RealSecure GUI, and even the Real Secure logs created during the
process, all indicated that everything was fine... however the NT logs
indicated a problem that a timeout had occurred while shutting down
the Network Engine. From what I could work out, the update process
failed to update certain DLL files since they were 'locked'. This was
for v5 on NT so i can't say it's got anything to do with your
problems. Even so... besides checking for errors on the GUI, also look
for any ISS logs created on the console/sensor, and after that check
the NT / Solaris syslogs too. Hint: right-click the Program Files ISS
directory, select 'Find' and set the criteria to 'Changed in the last
day'; i often use this to check what files are worth inspecting for
clues. For Solaris folks, of course, there's always the 'find' command
or 'lS -lR' with grep for today's date. I believe the v65 console
offers configurable levels of tracing, including expressly for the XPU
process, but it can produce frightening levels of detail!

Best o' luck,

Jason
