I am the Product Manager for System Scanner and I am sorry your are having
problems. We have looked at this problem for you.
If you look for 2140 under MSDN, you will find half a hundred known-error
reports from lots of different (mostly Microsoft written) services
explaining the circumstances they do this.
Error 2140 is a very generic error message with the exact text of :
"An internal Windows 2000 error occurred."
The conditions that cause 2140 vary considerably, but the common factors
seems to be around wrong file names, permissions, inaccessible mapped
drives, etc, etc.
One of our engineers said "I think you get this kind of error when a process
doesn't have enough permissions (e.g. have they changed the user account
that the CAL service runs as, I think CAL needs a local administrator) or
files it is trying to use are read-only etc."
It would seem that the user you are logged into and trying to start the CAL
has insufficient permissions. We recommend that System Scanner is installed
from a user that is a member of the local administrators group or has
equivalent permissions.
Check the permissions of the user you are trying to start the Console from
and if you are still having a problem I would recommend that you contact ISS
Technical Support.

When I'm starting System Scanner 4.2 Console an error message appear:
"The System Scanner Cal Service could not be started".
Correct, this service isn�t running,
Now I try to start it but other error message appear:
"Error starting System Scanner Cal service. Error 2140: Windows NT
Internal error".
When could I resolve this problem?
