To my knowledge installing 4 network sensors (NS) on one machine is not a problem. If
I remember correctly, ISS will support up to two instances of NS on one box; but,
remember, for every instance of NS you install, you need to have the minimum RAM and
disk space as defined by ISS in their system requirements.

Also, if you are in the T & E stage, make sure you have a good traffic generator, i.e.
Smartbits, and attack platform. I would hammer the machine at different traffic rats
because, depending on which hardware platform you choose, system resources could be an
issue. I wish ISS would publish the hardware specs that they used in their multiple
instance testing.

We were also looking into installing multiple instances of NS to cut down on hardware
costs, but in the end, we went with one instance per machine due to the single point
of failure. As cheap as Sun hardware is, it just made more sense for us to go the
single instance route.

Subject: [ISSForum] Max Network Sensors on One Machine

All:

What is the maximum number of network sensors that can be installed on 1
server. We would like to attempt installing 4 on one machine? Any problems
with that?

Thanks!

Paul
