You can increase the various settings available in the options menu of
IS. Parallel scan threads, parallel service threads, MAX connections, and
Timeouts are all configurable. You should read the Users Guide and the online
help. It discusses each setting and what it affects. More RAM would help
and a 1.8 GHz is still slow for a gigabit fiber nic. We've been trying
different settings with various results. It seems to be directly related to
processor speed/ram amount/network congestion. Try checking the number of ports you are scanning as
well. Seeing how you are ISS Certified, perhaps this should be covered more
in-depth in the class.

Mark

Subject: [ISSForum] Optimizing Internet Scanner
Hi! I was wondering if anybody had any tips or tricks to make Internet Scanner run faster. I'm very confused and wished that it would speed things up. We've upgraded our scanning systems to a P4, 1.8 GHz, 256 meg ram, and gigabit fiber nic, and the scans still run at the same pace as our 500 MHz, 256 meg ram, and 100mbps nic. If anybody has any ideas or tips to optimize the scans, that would be great!
