I have been trying to deploy network sensors on our infrastructure with the help of
our network personnel. I have my sensors connected to the SPAN ports on our switches.
 The problem arises when a network administrator needs to perform some sort of testing
on the network and needs to plug into the SPAN port to do it. This means pulling the
plug on the sensors for an unknown amount of time.

I have thought of several alternatives to pulling the plug but I am unsure of whether
any of these will work. Could someone provide me their opinions based on their own
experiences with this to give me advice on what I should do. Could you please let me
know what the order of preference these would have and why? Could you also tell me if
there are other options that I have not addressed here?

* upgrade of software to enable the use of multiple SPAN ports on 1 switch.
* upgrade of hardware with multiple SPAN ports
* the use of a hub connected to a SPAN port when network testing is required.
This would allow both devices to share the port temporarily
*       the use of taps

Thanks,

Paul
