Do you have your EC and Database on the same server? If so, I wouldn't think you would need another CAL.
If not, as far as I know, all you would need is a CAL for the Event Collector.. -----Original Message----- From: Hayes, Bill [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, February 21, 2003 9:31 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [ISSForum] Migrating from MSDE 2000 to MS SQL 2000 I want to move ISSED from MSDE 2000 to SQL 2000. My site license adminstrator tells me that in addition to the basic cost of SQL 2000, we will also have to pay a CAL fee for each machine that touches the database, either directly or indirectly. This is supposedly a new licensing change by MS. Since many of you seem to be using SQL 2000, perhaps you can help me figure out what we'll have to pay. Anyone from MS out there? Currently I have six sensors and I'm running the eventcollector, db, and console from one host. With the change to SQL, I would be moving the SQL db to another server and keeping the event collector and console on the current host. So, what do I have to pay for the new db -- the basic charge plus one CAL for my console/event collector host, or the basic charge plus seven CALs for my console/event collector and six sensors?
